Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07 for GS-09 level; GS-09 for GS-11 level) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience for a GS-09 is defined as : assisting in the planning, organizing, and evaluation of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive safety programs; implementing local safety and occupational health policies; and investigating and documenting accidents and mishaps. Specialized Experience for a GS-11 is defined as : Apply recognized safety, environmental, and health principles, standards, laws and techniques to assist in the management and evaluation of a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive safety program; provide technical advice and guidance to management and employees on chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive safety; assist in the development of standards, regulations, practices and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.
