Minimum Qualifications One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Duties Description - Will be required to lead and supervise Facility Operation Assistant 1 (FOA1) trail crew workers, including providing work assignments, ensuring schedules, standards and guidelines are met.
* Will be required to work outside in adverse condition during the winter.
* Will be responsible for boundary line maintenance of NYS DEC wilderness areas.
* Will be required to stay overnight in wilderness area or remote cabin as needed.
* Must be capable of hiking and lifting and carrying 50 lb materials or equipment.
* Will be required to operate a personal computer.
* Will be required to oversee and do manual work on various Adirondack hiking and ski trails, and High Peak cabin outposts (such as blow-down removal, carpentry, roofing, painting, plumbing, equipment operation, chainsaw operation, maintaining roads, grounds and facilities, must be comfortable operating chainsaws, felling winches, axes and handsaws.
* Must be comfortable snow shoeing and cross country skiing.
* Will perform a variety of semiskilled carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, roofing, masonry and related work in maintaining, repairing and constructing a wide variety of park structures, roads and other facilities.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
