Facilities Operations Assistant 2 (Grounds) are responsible to perform and oversee a variety of routine manual tasks, requiring medium to heavy physical effort. Responsible for the appearance and condition of grounds, athletic fields, walkways and roads. Facilities Operations Assistant 2 are working supervisors who oversee the Facilities Operations Assistant 1 and Facilities Operations Assistant 1 (Grounds) staff. They may assist in operations by performing routine activities requiring limited or no training.

Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:

Supervise and direct the daily activities for Facilities Operations Assistant 1 and Facilities Operations Assistant 1 (Grounds) personnel.

Cleans grounds, walkways and roadways. Cleans by sweeping, raking, shoveling, and removing by hand debris, leaves, dead plant material, branches, trash, etc.

Maintains lawns by mowing, trimming, leveling, amending soil, over-seeding, applying fertilizers.

Creates and maintains plant beds by digging, tilling, edging, planting, mulching, pruning, fertilizing watering and replacing dead plants.

Operates and maintains motorized equipment and machinery such as lawn mowers, line trimmers, tillers, snow throwers and snowplows to maintain grounds, parking lots, and walkways.

Moves heavy supplies and equipment within and around the campus.

Maintains organization and cleanliness of shop(s) and storage areas.

Lubricates and maintains machinery, equipment and tools.

Assists in operations by performing routine, repetitive activities. Setup and breakdown equipment for special events.

Required Qualifications

One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Grounds)*; OR, two years' experience and/or training in grounds maintenance work.

Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license.

Position requires CDL class B license within twelve (12) months of employment. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires performing a pre-employment query before hiring a CDL driver to perform safety-sensitive functions, including operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). A contingent offer of employment will be withdrawn for any applicant who fails or refuses the requirements according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The successful applicant will be subject to federal mandates under the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) which includes performing mandated drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, pre-assignment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, follow-up and return to duty testing. A contingent offer of employment will be withdrawn for any applicant who fails or refuses to take the drug/alcohol pre-employment test.

Position requires Ornamental Turf Grass 3A licensure within six (6) months of employment.

Working knowledge of methods, material, tools and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which assigned.

Working knowledge of applicable standards for grounds care.

Ability to train and supervise others.

Ability to plan and layout work.

Ability to understand and carryout written and oral instructions.
