Facility Technician

Classification Title: Facility Technician

Department: Parks & Recreation

Pay Grade: 8

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Statement of Job

Under regular supervision, performs routine customer service and technical work in support of efficient and effective Recreation and Leisure Services Division operations. Reports to the Operations and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Completes set-up and break-down of events, banquets, and programs, includes tables, chairs, flooring, staging, and related materials.

Operates audio, visual, and equipment related to events.

Performs minor maintenance of buildings, equipment and fixtures.

Light custodial work, may include emptying trash receptacles, tidying restrooms and spot sweeping/vacuuming.

Operates vehicles, forklifts, pallet jack, lift and a variety of hand and power tools. Exercises care and safety in the use of assigned equipment and vehicles.

Performs routine clerical work as required, including entering computer data, copying and filling documents, faxing information, etc.

Monitors and regulates HVAC as directed. Ensures there are no obstructions near safety exits.

Assist in maintaining a log of all repairs and maintenance to the facility.

Help in monitoring all mechanical functions to ensure all building and ground equipment is functioning properly.

Performs related work as required.

Flexible hours, evenings, weekends and holidays, as required.

Minimum Education and Training

Requires three (3) years' experience in parks and recreation, event management, or related field. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license. May be required to have certification in CPR and first aid. Must have forklift certification. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Skill Requirements:

Is knowledgeable in the methods, policies, and procedures of the department pertaining to specific duties of the Facility Technician. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Has through knowledge of modern office practices and technology. Has through knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, spelling and basic mathematics. Has excellent clerical, bookkeeping, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Has comprehensive knowledge of the computer and other technical terminology used within the department; has skill in the use of computers for data and word processing. Knows how to operate and maintain a variety of office equipment as necessary in the performance of daily activities. Is skilled in applying a responsible attention to detail as necessary in preparing reports and records. Is able to read and interpret a variety of materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to maintain files and records accurately and with confidentiality as required. Is able to take the initiative to compete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks. Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities.

Is able to provide assistance to various departments, supervisors, co-workers and the general public as needed. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Knows how to perform duties in a courteous manner and communicate effectively with a variety of public and private groups as prescribed. Is able to work effectively despite interruptions; is able to balance multiple talks and tight deadlines. Is capable of working under stressful conditions as required. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a vehicle, forklift, high reach, pallet jack, and various hand and power tools, and a variety of office equipment including a computer, adding machine, telephone, etc. Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, typically involving some combination of remaining on feet for extended periods of time climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20-50 pounds) to heavy weight (up to 100 pounds).

Responsibilities:

Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interaction with internal and external entities with whom the position interacts.

Performs described Essential Functions and related assignments efficiently and effectively in order to produce quantity of work which consistently meets established standards and expectations. Assumes responsibility for completing assigned work. Completes assigned work within deadlines in accordance with directives, policy, standards, and prescribed procedures. Maintains accountability for assigned responsibilities in the technical, human and conceptual areas.

Exercises analytical judgment in areas of responsibility, identifies issues or situations as they occur and specifies decision objectives. Identifies or assists in identifying alternative solutions to issues or situations. Implements decisions in accordance with prescribed and effective policies and procedures and with a minimum of errors. Seeks expert or experienced advice where appropriate and researches issues, situations and alternatives before exercising judgment.

Working Conditions:

Works primarily in an office and event venue environment. Includes working outside events in varying weather and temperatures.
