This is a grant-funded position.General ResponsibilitiesThe employee assigned to this position serves as a central entry point of contact for families of preschool age children who may be eligible for early childhood services provided by Norfolk Public Schools. This position supports marketing and outreach to preschool families along with the Family Resource Center. This position supports diverse enrollment into our preschool program and professional development to site-based family engagement specialist regarding support for preschool children and their families. This position provides information about services available through the public schools, schedules comprehensive screenings, coordinates screening schedule, maintains a database of all children and provides pertinent information for appropriate follow-up services in coordination with the Senior Coordinator of Early Learning. their children in school. Please be advised that this position is grant-funded. Education and ExperienceRequires an Associate's Degree or higher and experience working with young children and families. Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Strong ability to plan and organize. Effective working knowledge of database and/or central point of entry software. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as work within a team environment. Must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with families and staff. Ability to follow tasks through to completion with strong attention to detail. Seeks clarification when uncertain of task expectations. Analyzes and/or reports problems in the area of responsibility as they occur and implements solutions as appropriate. - Attend appropriate VDOE professional development.
- Support coordinated regional efforts in preschool family engagement.
- Plan, coordinate and facilitate efforts to improve family involvement preschool programs.
- Engage community resource persons and consultants for programs at the Family Wellness Center.
- Establish and maintain contact with families regarding workshops and activities at the family Wellness Center.
- Coordinate staff development training for school level family engagement specialists that support preschool.
- Assist with the organization of the parent advisory councils in each preschool and assist in planning and coordinating activities for Title I division wide family engagement committee.
- Organize and participate in the Preschool Steering Committee Meetings.
- Collaborates and communicates regularly with staff in the Early Learning/Title I Department via phone, email for the purpose of enrollment, screenings, and referrals.
- Supports marketing of the preschool program alongside the Senior Coordinator of Preschool.
- Provides general information about the early childhood program and services and the developmental screening process through phone, zoom calls, and face-to-face contacts with families.
- Contacts families about missing documentation for the application process.
- Maintains knowledge and records of preschool acceptance requirements and communicates this information effectively.
- Organizes and maintains a calendar for screenings after scheduling with families.
- Establishes and maintains data to monitor and track screenings and referrals.
- Communicates and support expectations of Administrative Secretary I in organizing and assigning duties to support this process alongside the Senior Coordinator of Preschool.
- Responds to calls and emails to the central point of entry line in a timely manner.
- Ensures confidentiality of child and family records.
- Completes all necessary reports, records, and correspondence.
- Maintains the Preschool database and Synergy.
- Report updates to Senior Coordinator of Preschool and Senior Director of Early Learning and Title I on status of applications and enrollment.
- Supports acceptance process of students and placement of students with support of the Senior Coordinator of Preschool.
- Participates in recruitment efforts of the school district; this may include attending weekend and weeknight events
- Performs other duties as assigned.
