This position, therefore, is contingent upon continuation of funding of these grants and/or contracts and satisfactory job performance.Required Education:Master of Science degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.Required Experience:One year directly related experience serving as a family nurse practitioner.Required Licenses and Certifications:Requires an active license as a Registered Nurse and as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, in the state of Texas with prescriptive authority and national board certification as a family nurse practitioner.Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to use electronic health records.Preferred Qualifications:At least five years of clinical nursing experience is required. American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Certificate.Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and electronic health records, some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.Experience in health professions education is preferred.Responsibilities: The Family Nurse Practitioner in the School of Nursing delivers primary care in a mobile school-based clinic setting to students, faculty, staff, families, and community residents in rural areas around the Brazos Valley of Texas. Provides primary care working collaboratively with an interprofessional team. Travels to the mobile clinic sites.FNP Practice and Clinical Preceptor
- Performs history, psychosocial, and physical examinations, diagnosis of acute, chronic, and urgent/episodic primary care conditions, formulates therapeutic plans of care, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic imaging, electrocardiographic exams, medication management and provides education to patients and their families
- Coordinates the care of patients to provide safe, effective, efficient, and timely patient-centered care. Liaises between clinical staff and consult services. Consults with physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding the care of patients as appropriate
- Orders therapeutic modalities such as medications, treatments, diagnostic tests, etc.
- Performs primary care procedures
- Provides primary health care maintenance of the population served, including immunizations and recommended health screenings
- Counsels and instructs patients and significant others as appropriate on medications, disease, procedures, and preventive healthcare
- Assesses, stabilizes, and determines disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with policy regarding emergency and consultative call services
- Serves as a clinical resource for staff through consultation formal and informal education, review of literature and participation in seminars, conferences, and simulation
- Documents clinical encounters clearly, precisely, and in a timely manner
- Applies, models, and teaches evidence-based treatment and care in clinical setting
- Precepts advance practice and pre-licensure nursing students each semester
- Promotes costs savings and optimal patient experience in primary care
- Participates in rapid cycle continuous process improvement
- Participates in data reporting
- Participates in scholarly projects as appropriate
