Hiring Range: $37,000 to Commensurate with Experience

This is an essential position providing services to older/incapacitated adults. The position is responsible for: Conducting Adult Protective Services investigations regarding abuse, neglect and exploitation; conducting nursing facility, PACE, personal care and adult living facilities screenings; reviewing and submitting guardianship reports to circuit court; data entry into the Ault Protective Services database (Peer Place); obtaining guardianship, conservatorship and/or involuntary adult protective services orders; testifying in court regarding the matter of Adult Services/Adult Protective Services; working with agency-approved home-based providers to complete companion or homemaker services; providing services intake; providing case management services including home and field visits; participating in multi-disciplinary teams, facilitating educational groups and activities with clients, community and agency partners; participating and completing mandated Adult Services/Adult Protective Services training for certification and staff development activities; tracking expenditures and ensuring accuracy of payments; providing 24-hour on-call services and responding to emergencies in child/adult protective services and/or foster care.

This position requires being a professional with a positive attitude and a team player with an ongoing working relationship within the agency and community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge- Social work principles and practices; policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to adults; cycle and indicators of abuse; human behavior; stages of change and motivational interviewing; interviewing and assessment; investigative techniques; crisis intervention; case planning and documentation; service delivery; laws, code and court proceedings/testimony; interventions for substance abuse, domestic violence, mental illness/intellectual disability; trauma-informed practice; client interviewing; aging issues; dementia and other health issues; proper preparation of reports, records and other documentation; adult's right to self-determination.

Skills- Use of personal computer, IPAD, agency cellphone, hardware and software programs; operation of general office equipment and motor vehicle.

Abilities- Assess strengths and needs; collaborate with colleagues and the public; assist with developing policy and procedures; make decisions in difficult situations and under high stress; communicate effectively orally and in writing; interpret laws, policies and regulations regarding adult services; assess risk, safety and capacity; conduct agency-approved provider certification and monitoring; maintain appropriate records; determine effectiveness of services; maximize independence, protect adult's right to make decisions and have those decisions respected by others; show respect in all situations and respond with empathy; remain non-judgmental and unbiased; identify indicators of abuse, neglect and exploitation; find and use state of the art research and treatments for problems affecting client populations; understand and work effectively with various cultures; present agency programs and prevention/outreach information to public.

Education and Experience- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia). Experience in assigned program area and completion of required training programs or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable.

Special Requirements:

Applicants may be subject to a Criminal History Background search, Central Registry search, DMV/driving record check, and/or pre-employment drug screen.

The investigation may include: fingerprint checks (State Police, FBI), local agency checks, employment verification and references, verification of education (relevant to employment), credit checks (relevant to employment) and other checks requested by the hiring authority.

The position is covered under Code of Virginia 63.2-1601.1 or 63.2-1720 requiring the finalist candidate to submit to fingerprinting and provide personal descriptive information for a criminal history record check through the Central Criminal Records Exchange and a search of the Central Registry.

Employee must be willing to work in the community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.
