Fiber Design EngineerOmni Fiber is seeking a skilled and motivated Fiber Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the design and planning of fiber optic networks, including the creation of detailed network layouts, documentation, and field support. This role requires a deep understanding of fiber optic technology, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and contractors. This is a full-time, primarily remote position with travel to Brownsville, TX.What You Will Do:
- Design and plan fiber optic networks including backbone, distribution, and last-mile connections.
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including network layouts, splice diagrams, and route maps.
- Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine optimal network routes and placements.
- Collaborate with project managers, field engineers, and contractors to ensure accurate design implementation.
- Perform thorough reviews of submitted designs from contracting groups.
- Utilize GIS and CAD software to draft, develop, and refine network designs.
- Create redline updates to existing designs.
- Demonstrate smart and cost effective decisions within design parameters.
- Develop fiber construction drawings, including Bill of Materials and Splice Schematics for various OSP architectures, including MDUs.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost analysis to support design decisions.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, local regulations, and company guidelines.
- Provide technical support during the construction and deployment phases of the project.
- Review and approve as-built documentation to ensure network accuracy.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in fiber optic technology and best practices.
- Travel to Brownsville, TX a few times a month.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of OSP telecom experience.
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Strong experience designing fiber optic networks.
- Proficient in reading and understanding workprints.
- ArcGIS (1+ years of recent experience) or similar GIS software.
- Experience in planning and quality control.
- Vendor management experience.
- Heavy experience with ArcGIS preferred but not required.
- Project management experience is preferred but not required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field is preferred but not required.
