Job Summary:

* The Field Crew Chief is responsible for field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects. Responsible for locating and determining land by measuring and calculating points, elevations, lines, angles, areas, and contours.

Accountability and Duties:

* Participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers.

* Assigns and monitors field work.

* Instructs and trains survey crews in surveying mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.

* Gathers field survey data through the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) methods; sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings; and performs field surveying for roadway, bridges, pipeline, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes; tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.

* Performs complex surveying calculations using calculator, laptop, and graphics and coordinate geometry software, such as AutoCAD, analyzes raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy, provides survey information for Geographic Information Systems (GIS)l and prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports.

* Research existing record information, including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents.

* Maintains field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems.

* Maintains property inventory of all assigned field equipment.

* Ensures survey field vehicle is properly stocked and maintained.

* Completes assignments accurately in a timely and efficient manner within budget while adhering to safety rules.

Required Qualifications, Licenses, & Registration:

* Valid driver's license required

* Must successfully complete DOT drug screening and background check, including 7-year criminal history check and Motor Vehicle Record check.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Must possess a high school diploma.

* As-built experience required.

* GPS experience preferred.

* Must be able to perform duties for extended periods in various terrains and climates, including adverse weather conditions, as necessary.

* Available to travel overnight 50-75% of the time, including working nights and weekends to complete a project as necessary.

* Possess and demonstrate outstanding and effective written and verbal communication skills.

* Ability to make independent decisions within a general framework.

* Ability to lead and engage staff.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office

* Must be fluent in the English language.

* Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions, possibly for extended assignments.
