AgZen's mission is to make agrochemical spraying more efficient and eliminate pesticide waste. Our patented retrofits allow farmers to spray up to 50% less agrochemicals while improving pest/disease control, crop health, and yield. We are a vibrant, venture-backed startup based in Boston, Massachusetts that is actively expanding to Lafayette, Indiana and we are committed to helping farmers save money and preventing the over-spraying of agrochemicals.

We are looking for a sharp, tenacious, and creative Field Engineer to help with the development and implementation of AgZen's product portfolio. This role is at the intersection of agrochemical spraying, science, and engineering. This position will broadly support AgZen's on-field commercial and in-lab research and development activities to reduce pesticide use, focusing on the continual improvements of our products used in food crops. The role will involve solving diverse, complex problems as a part of our world class engineering team, focusing on installing our products on farms across the US, focusing mainly in the Midwest, and working closely with commercial customers throughout the growing season to ensure product performance and uptime. Strong communication and organizational skills are a must. Teamwork and the desire to learn in a fast-paced environment in the field are all essential skills for a successful applicant. Previous field experience is a plus for this position.

What you will do:

  • Coordinate with customers to schedule installation, service, and maintenance events
  • Install AgZen equipment on customer machines documenting the process using collaborative field documentation software
  • Train sprayer operators on usage of our products to ensure proper and safe usage
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment following safety guidelines, while maintaining detailed field records along the way
  • Following the growing season, this position will assist field and in-lab experimentation on AgZen's product portfolio that will translate to on-field implementation during the following growing season
  • Collaborate with AgZen's technical team and manufacturing team to communicate customer needs
  • Potential to manage a field team of 1-2 field engineers
  • Present bi-weekly updates on in-field progress and product implementation to AgZen's technical team

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in agronomy, crop sciences, mechanical engineering, environmental science, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2+ years of work experience in a related field
  • Ability to understand and interact with agricultural equipment and technology
  • Basic understanding of crop production, crop protection, and agriculture
  • Ability to work well in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in heat and humidity
  • Managerial experience a plus

The position opens on December 9th, 2024 and starts around February 10th, 2025. Exact start date is flexible. The position is based around Lafayette, Indiana and travel within the US may be expected to meet or exceed 60% of time during peak growing months with seasonal variation.
