Job Description :
SUMMARY The job of a Service Technician is a critical one. Roadtec equipment is sold all over the world and Service Technicians are expected to service the customers in their service coverage area as well as travel to whatever destination is necessary to meet the needs of the customer.A Service Technician performs diagnostic evaluations and analyzes customer complaints in order to resolve any equipment performance issues and bring equipment back into good working order under the direction of the Service Manager.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not limited to)
  • Communicate with customers regarding equipment performance issues, time required to repair, etc.
  • Train customer personnel in operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Observe and listen to mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble
  • Set up and conduct tests under operational conditions in order to correct or improve performance and other factors
  • Plan work procedure
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments
  • Perform on-site welding and fabricating where required
  • Repair, rebuild or replace defective parts
  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices
  • Lubricate and clean parts
  • Start devices to test their performance
  • Order parts for machines when required
  • Inspect, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems
  • Assist customers by phone with technical problems and works with Parts Department to ship necessary parts to customers in a timely manner
  • May lead, direct and/or supervise the work of customer employees
  • Write complete and accurate service reports and submits to service department
  • Assist with and attends trade shows as needed
  • Always keep a clean, well-maintained and safe vehicle
  • Submit weekly expense reports with no report aging over thirty (30) days old
  • Project positive company image by interacting with fellow employees, customers and management in a cooperative, supportive and courteous manner; displays professional attitude; complies with company dress code
  • Communicate with individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Document assigned tasks as required
  • Perform work according to supervisor's directives when requested
  • Follow and actively support all company policies and procedures, to include a primary emphasis on safe operations
  • Follow proper safety procedures at all times
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required by company, customers and/or state DOTs
  • Clean work area daily
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • One (1) year of experience in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of heavy construction equipment
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical background
  • Engineering drawing and schematic reading and interpretation skills

Additional Qualifications:Service Technician I: Must meet minimum qualifications and become familiar with duties listed in job description.Service Technician II: As with Service Technician I, plus demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair at least one (1) type of heavy road construction equipment in Astec's product line (e.g., paver, Shuttle Buggy, milling machine or stabilizer), consistently and satisfactorily follow directions and produce product that meets company quality standards within company-specified deadlines and perform duties. Must have successfully completed Introductory Period.Service Technician III: As with Service Technician II, plus demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair a variety of heavy road construction equipment in Astec's product line (e.g., paver, Shuttle Buggy, milling machine or stabilizer), consistently and satisfactorily complete all duties listed in job description within company-specified deadlines. SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to operate or be trained to operate heavy roadbuilding equipment

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Twenty-one (21) years of age or older (for car rental purposes)

  • Must provide all tools needed to repair both electrical and mechanical systems on heavy equipment
  • Willingness be on call at all times
  • Willingness to train in Chattanooga, Tennessee with expenses being paid during training
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to a region of the US convenient to the service coverage area at his/her expense after training if required
  • Flexibility to work additional hours when required
  • Extensive travel (one to two weeks or more at a time including some weekends)
  • Willingness to travel within the US and abroad as needed
  • Required to visit road construction sites
  • Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Required to carry $100,000/$300,000 liability insurance coverage on any personal vehicle used for company business. Mileage reimbursed through expense reports submitted to the Company's accounting department.
  • Sufficient personal financial resources to make credit-based travel arrangements, etc. between monthly company reimbursement cycles. Approved expenses will be reimbursed.
  • Ability to obtain a passport if required
PREFERENCES
  • Welding, hydraulic and pneumatic experience
  • Experience in the asphalt industry, field of heavy road building and/or construction machinery industry
  • Metric knowledge and understanding

The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in this environment is usually loud and may require hearing protection.The employee is occasionally exposed to travel hazards associated with automobile and/or airplane travel.
