DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This individual will plan, coordinates and directs the activities of groups of workers within the same department. Analyze and resolve staff, equipment and operating problems and recommend changes to increase efficiency. Prepare, coordinate, update and/or refer work orders to the appropriate entity. Sets up and maintains employee attendance records. Prepares periodic performance evaluations, reviews contents with the employee. Trains new employees. Assist with daily operations tasks as needed, drives city vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness and air pollution. This position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field are required.
A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
However, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
