Job Title: Field TechnicianJob DescriptionWe offer a broad range of professional, engineering, and technical services to the telecommunications and power delivery markets. We have a current opening for a Utility Technician. We support our customers and stakeholders by constantly striving to exceed expectations with our services, which include Communications Design Services, Energy Distribution Services, Utility Pole Inspection, and Environmental Services.Responsibilities
  • Collecting field data utilizing tripod-mounted GPS unit (EOS Arrow Gold), laser range finder (TruPulse 200x) and tablet (iPad Pro 11)
  • Taking field notes and completing data collection for the purpose of fiber optic internet design using existing power infrastructure
  • Documenting field data and taking measurements of existing utilities and communications attached to power company poles
  • Utilizing ESRI Collector to document and compile collected field data
Essential Skills
  • Knowledge of power poles, field work, and utility operations
  • Experience in telecommunication and GIS
  • Surveying and GPS skills
  • Detail-oriented and ability to adapt and problem solve
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office and learn new software
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to meet daily collection goals
  • Ability to lift/carry at least 25 lbs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • GIS, Utility Technician, Survey, or Civil Engineering Certificate, Associate degree or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with spatial data collection software (ESRI Collector or equivalent)
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of software/hardware from the field
Work EnvironmentThis is a 100% field role requiring walking in rough terrain and various weather conditions. Work will be conducted in rural areas, within a radius of about an hour from Columbus, Ohio. Lodging is provided.. The workday starts before sunrise and ends at sunset, Monday through Friday, with 8-hour shifts on every other Saturday. The role involves carrying a tripod, iPad, and laser/GPS equipment while working alone but within a few miles of other employees. PPE, including high visibility vests, is provided, but good walking boots are required and not provided. The project is slated to continue through Spring 2026, with potential for additional work. Per diem is provided at $30/day, with specific amounts allocated for meals. Opportunities for advancement and supporting other projects are available.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
