A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline. AIS is looking for Field Technicians to support Empire Winds pile driving efforts.
Primary Function:
Working under the general direction of a Project Manager, the Field Technician works offshore on a vessel, participating in the assembly, preparation, calibration, deployment, and retrieval of a variety of underwater acoustic instrumentation packages. This position requires travel and working rotations (30 days) at sea from May to December.
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Conduct routine mechanical and electrical assembly and disassembly, and maintenance and calibration of oceanographic instruments and moorings, including but not limited to:
* Replacement floats, lines, shackles
* Battery replacements
* Deploy and recover oceanographic equipment in the field.
* Unpack oceanographic instrumentation in preparation for shipping related to deployments.
* Clean and pack oceanographic instrumentation after recovery.
* Conduct required administrative tasks such as data logging and paperwork.
* Adherence to quality and health & safety policies and procedures.
Compensation: Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated, and total compensation will vary depending on candidates depth of experience. This is a fulltime position. AIS benefits package includes health and dental insurance, vacation, sick and holiday benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Must be legally entitled to work in the United States (US Citizen or hold a current valid work permit).
* Must have a valid US passport or US identification card with a validity of at least 6 months
* Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
* Minimum of 1 year of sea-going experience required.
* Experience with the operation of mechanical and electronic equipment.
* Ability to understand, express and apply concepts and instructions of a general nature as well as somewhat technical/scientific/administrative precepts, concepts, methods, and procedures.
* Ability to perform physically and mentally demanding tasks.
* Ability to troubleshoot oceanographic instrumentation preferred.
* Demonstrated attention to detail.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in English required.
* Ability to work in a team environment maintaining focus on work quality.
* Willingness and ability to learn.
* Skilled in standard software including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, etc. and aptitude to learn and work with various industry specific software products.
Certifications Required:
* First Aid Training.
* OGUK Medical.
* Marine Medical Certificate.
* Offshore Safety & Survival training such as BOSIET or STCW.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Seagoing experience in support of offshore wind farm installation, scientific research, offshore oil & gas exploration, or passive sonar operations preferred
* Experience in the deployment, recovery and mooring of oceanographic instrumentation preferred
Travel:
* Reimbursed for miles accrued on a personal vehicle as well as per diem at the specified Government rate.
