Fieldston Future Leaders Camp The Fieldston Summer Camps have created valuable summer experiences for both campers and instructors! We are a six-week summer day camp for rising PreK through 8th-grade children. Both morning and afternoon sessions specifically cater to each camper's interests. Fieldston Future Leaders Camp is a nurturing and safe environment filled with a fun and exciting way of learning. We have a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, math, and design-based programming that is experiential and project-based. All of our programs cater to leadership development, confidence building, and creativity because we recognize that each child has the potential to make an impact on the world. Position Summary Fieldston Future Leaders Camp Assistant Director of Programs is an important part of our Camp Leadership team and is essential in upholding the Fieldston Summer Camp mission while supporting the implementation of stellar and safe summer programs. The Assistant Director will help design and implement a diverse range of engaging and educational activities with the camp instructors and will work in tandem with the Camp Director. The Assistant Director of Programs will oversee the execution of a STEAM-based curriculum tailored specifically for the summer camp environment, ensuring that lessons are both educational and enjoyable. This role will include sourcing and organizing materials, coordinating with instructors to deliver interactive sessions, and fostering an environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking among campers. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Programs will be responsible for managing instructors' schedules, evaluating the program's effectiveness, and providing guidance and support to the instructors. The salary for this position is $13,000 from February 10, 2025-August 1, 2025. Please note that this is an onsite role and is not performed remotely. Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Programs will be: Camper Relations • Assisting with class instructions when needed; • Developing and planning special workshops/ events with STEAM-focused instructors. Staff Management and Supervision • Interviewing returning and incoming instructors; • Observing and providing feedback to instructors; • Managing instructors' teaching schedules; • Ability to learn our Sawyer registration system: • Assisting with orientation, training, and mentorship of summer camp instructors; • Serving as a model for best practice while offering coaching and guidance; • Assisting with planning and delivering professional and leadership development training, and contributing to both formal and informal program and performance evaluation. Risk Mitigation • Overseeing the operations of specialty areas, including the sports fieldsand pool; • Working in tandem with the Nurse and Director to ensure all health and safety protocols align with Department of Health codes and standards; • Monitoring safety and ensuring adherence to policies as they pertain to the supervision of campers and staff; • Appropriately addressing student behavioral issues and other challenges that may arise in the classroom in order to maintain a safe environment and a sense of calm in such situations; • Leading during emergency situations; • Ensuring confidentiality of student information as necessary; • Being present for all camp meetings with the camp director and other assistant directors and staff accordingly; • Maintaining compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards; Special Events Coordination • Assisting the operations coordinator in planning and coordinating special events including, but not limited to, theme days, talent shows, or guest speaker sessions; • Collaborating with the camp director to integrate these events seamlessly into the camp program and • Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned. Position Requirements The successful incumbent will possess: • A Bachelor's Degree or some college-level coursework; • At least 3 years of previous leadership experience working at a summer camp, academic, or enrichment-based program setting; • Previous experience working with elementary and middle school-age children; • Must be a highly motivated individual committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; • The ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the overall community; • Proficient in MS Office, G-Suite, and database applications; • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail; • The ability to identify issues quickly and problem solve accordingly, and to remain calm in stressful situations that may arise; • Must be someone who can work independently and is able to shift priorities and prioritize when necessary; • The capacity to maintain confidentiality in matters of sensitivity; • The ability to develop and teach effective workshops; • Ability to coach and give feedback when necessary to camp staff and campers; • A positive attitude and the ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback; • A CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain; • Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance; and • A deep respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms.
