Job Description:
Position Summary: This position will assist with the awarding of state, federal, and 3rd party financial aid which includes: answering questions, explaining regulatory practices to students and families about those awards, and performing general aid counseling as needed, under the direction/supervision of the Associate Director. This is a part-time temporary position (15 hours weekly) through June 30, 2025 with the potential of being extended.
Essential Functions of the Position:
* Assists with the management of state aid programs such as the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, Governor's Merit Scholarship, Choose Ohio First, Ohio War Orphans Scholarship, GEAR Up Grant, and the Pennsylvania State Grant to create financial aid packages by awarding students.
* Assists with awarding for federal programs including PELL, Federal Work Study, SEOG, and TEACH grant programs on an as needed basis.
* Assists with awarding for 3rd party programs such as private scholarship organizations, community foundations, and the Ohio National Guard on an as needed basis.
* Assists with awarding for federal and private loan programs such as Direct, Plus, and private loans on an as needed basis.
* Responds to inquiries from students and parents relative to state and federal financial aid.
* Counsels students and families about the financial aid process, explaining state and federal regulatory requirements, and provides general guidance in relation to financial aid.
* Participates in state and federal audit preparations and other aid reporting.
* Use critical thinking, problem solving, and superior communication skills to achieve high quality outcomes via telephone and email correspondence that can effectively gain student comprehension of financial aid related matters.

Requirements:
Required Skills and Abilities:
* Must be able to work well with diverse students, faculty and administration on all levels.
* Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
* Must possess intermediate to advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
* Must possess the ability to use appropriate discretion and judgement under the highest level of confidentiality
* Strong attention to detail.
Required Experience & Education:
* A minimum of one year of relevant customer service experience is required.
* A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
* Prior experience in higher education or financial aid is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
* Primarily sedentary work in an office setting with occasional standing and walking.
* Use of office equipment including computers, printers, copiers with lifting of less than 20lb occasionally to fill machines or move files.
