The Fire Prevention Specialist role involves implementing EH&S concepts for single-function and multi-specialty programs within diverse organizational structures. Work is subject to review, emphasizing sound technical judgment and adherence to established policies and procedures. The specialist conducts fire safety prevention activities, including testing fire safety systems, auditing, record-keeping, and overseeing building surveys. Responsibilities include managing the Knox box program, earthquake shut-off gas valve programs, and participating in Fire Safety training initiatives. The role extends to coordinating special events programs, drafting reports for compliance with Title 19 of the California Code of Regulations, and responding to emergencies, including assisting in fire investigations under the direction of the Campus Fire Marshal. The position requires professional-level knowledge in the field, with a specialization in a specific area within a single academic or occupational discipline. Effective communication and outreach are integral to engaging with stakeholders and addressing code issues. The Fire Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in upholding the highest standards of fire safety within the organization.

Your Role on the Team
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in a diverse environment. Required
  • Working skills in the appropriate use of technology and relevant scientific equipment as required. Required
  • Solid, comprehensive working knowledge / understanding of a specific EH&S field including related laws and regulations, and general understanding of all EH&S fields. Required
  • Solid organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects Required
  • Working skills in the appropriate use of scheduling systems for Special Event Coordination. Required
  • Ability to verbally communicate with various audiences during Special Event Meetings and Walk throughs to effect approved plan compliance. Required
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access Required
  • Knox Box Experience Preferred
  • Fire Alarm Panel Operations Preferred
  • Respond to periodic assignments and emergency callbacks outside of normal working hours. Preferred

Experience required for this job

  • 1-3 years of ecperience in the following areas: building inspection, event planning with a fire life safety group emphasis required.

Special Conditions:

  • This position may work outside of normal working hours
  • Special events work will be outside of the office in the field.
  • Must be willing to work nights and/or weekend.
