This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation Surface devices at various stages of hardware development. You will:
- Collaborate with international software and hardware teams to design and enhance firmware.
- Gain expertise in hardware and software integration.
- Participate in the full development lifecycle, from prototype to release.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and debug firmware and drivers for Surface devices, ensuring usability and product stability.
- Collaborate with global teams of software engineers, program managers, and hardware developers to create or improve firmware components.
- Investigate, reproduce, and debug complex technical issues to drive timely solutions.
- Utilize debugging tools such as WinDbg, ETL traces, and Windows Performance Analyzer to identify root causes and resolve issues.
- Design and implement device drivers to enable new product features according to technical specifications.
- Participate in development discussions and contribute innovative software solutions.
Candidate Requirements:
Experience:
- 3+ years in firmware, embedded systems, or device driver development.
- Strong experience in debugging across multiple software/firmware layers and environments.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in C/C++ for design and coding.
- Experience with Windows Internals, UEFI, WDF, KMDF, UMDF, and Linux drivers is preferred.
- Familiarity with interfaces such as SPI, USB, I2C, and UART.
- Experience with kernel debugging, crashdump analysis, and troubleshooting system stability.
Desired Experience/Qualities:
- Domain knowledge of PC subsystems such as graphics, audio, cameras, sensors, or touch inputs.
- Ability to ramp up quickly on unfamiliar and complex codebases.
- Experience developing products or subsystems through multiple consumer product releases.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and UEFI firmware development.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in using hardware debugging tools like oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers.
- Ability to maintain progress in ambiguous and fast-paced environments.
