Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Must possess a valid drivers license.
Duties Description The applicant will assist with all aspects of the Region 3 regional wildlife program of the NYS DEC in New Paltz. Primary job duties will involve maintaining the regional bear report database and assisting with response to complaints from the public regarding human-bear conflicts, including response to phone
and email requests as well as responding to on-site situations as directed. The candidate will be required to set and monitor bear traps, maintain equipment, and assist in handling trapped bears and bears captured in urban situations. Other duties may include: endangered species monitoring, pheasant stocking,
fielding calls from the public on the general wildlife phone, collecting data from harvested deer and bear, bird surveys, and additional other ongoing research projects.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.
