The Virginian is hiring a passionate and dedicated, Full-Time, Fitness Coordinator to join our Life Enrichment and Wellness Teams.

The Fitness Coordinator leads and develops group exercise classes and fitness activities for the Residents of our Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Health Care Center neighborhoods. Listening and guiding classes and activities that inspire our residents to be active and engaged is a requirement in order to be successful in this position. Providing support and education to our residents, family members, and staff is vital to have a well rounded Fitness program. The ideal candidate will flexible, and willing to cover fitness classes as needed.

Essential Job Duties:

GROUP CLASSES

Teaches group exercise classes for Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Health Care Center residents; registered non-residents and employees, as assigned by the Wellness Navigator, with emphasis on classes in area of specialty.

Works with Wellness Navigator to develop new exercise programs and classes based on resident and employee needs and interests. Throughout employment, continues to progress areas of expertise to assist the Virginian in offering a wide offering of geriatric based group exercise classes to promote health and wellness of the Virginian residents, and registered non-residents and employees.

WELLNESS/EDUCATION

Educates residents and staff on wellness and fitness formally through seminars, informally through daily interaction.

Serves as a resource for staff and residents on health and fitness.

GENERAL

Participates in staff meetings, training sessions, and team teaching of classes.

Attends facility mandatory in-services. Maintains 100% compliance with mandatory data-based training.

Completes administrative duties as assigned by the Wellness Navigator.

Qualifications:

* Health and Fitness related degree from a college or university (Exercise Physiology, Health management, Kinesiology, and Gerontology are examples), or current specialty training and certifications in Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, or Geriatric Fitness Group Exercise.

* Current ACE or AFAA Group Fitness Instructor certification, or willing to obtain within 9 months of employment

* Has or is willing to obtain certification as an Arthritis Exercise Class group exercises instructor.

* CPR certification (Adult)

* Possesses the ability to deal tactfully and compassionately with residents, family members, and caregivers.

* Has the ability to motivate residents to participate as fully as possible in their exercise programs, while remaining sensitive to individual needs, desires, and fears and goals.

* Ability to teach and communicate effectively to groups.

* Professional dress, demeanor and presentation while performing duties at all times.

* May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, and etc. up to 25 lbs. throughout the workday, getting assistance when needed is a must!

* Ability to be enthusiastic, flexible, and to adapt to the changing healthcare work environment.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday (occasional weekend maybe required depending on resident need and or request)

Compensation:

$25-$35 an hour (Certification may increase the compensation range)
