Major Job Duties
- Prioritizes, schedules and assigns the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Develops and implements standard operating and safety procedures.
- Prepares and manages equipment operating and preventive maintenance records.
- Manages the equipment and parts inventory.
- Serves as the department purchasing agent; obtains price quotes; inspects products for quality and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Assists in preparing the division annual operating budget; monitors expenditures under the current budget; projects annual vehicle and equipment expenditures.
- Determines the safety and dependability of vehicles and equipment; assists in preparing bid specification for new department vehicles and equipment.
- Develops and manages the ongoing preventative maintenance of town vehicles and equipment; performs and oversees preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
- Purchases gasoline, oil and diesel fuel for town use; prepares fuel billing for other departments.
- Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel.
- Maintains the fuel inventory and management system; monitors fuel usage.
- Directs the cleaning and maintenance of shop facility and equipment.
- Coordinates the proper disposal of universal/hazardous liquid wastes within the Public Works Department.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Hampshire for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
