Summary/ObjectiveContributes to the overall mission of the Operations Division by providing vehicle and equipment maintenance. This position will also perform the service needs of department vehicles as directed and is on call for all other city vehicle services as needed by other City departments.Essential Functions Repairs and maintains equipment, vehicles, and machinery; supports core functions of the fleet shop.
  • Assists others, when needed, using methods, tools, materials and equipment of the automotive and equipment service and maintenance trade, principles of operations of gasoline and diesel driven equipment and vehicles in duties such as pumping brakes while the bleeding procedure is done, assisting in lifting, holding a prybar or flashlight or watching lights while they are being checked.
  • Performs work assignments such as pick-ups and delivery of city fleet vehicles, the maintenance and preventive maintenance of City vehicles and equipment, providing quality service with minimal returns for additional service, utilizing supplies and materials efficiently.
  • Maintains good records on all maintenance of parts and materials used, including but not limited to user comments, mileage and vehicle number.
  • Follows proper safety precautions utilizing safety gear and special clothing to handle and dispose of hazardous materials appropriately.
Performs additional duties as required
  • Attends required meetings and training.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Manages stress brought about by interacting with potentially irate and/or defensive customers.
  • Responds to call backs for emergencies including winter storms during non-duty hours.
  • Performs on-call duties after hours as required.
  • Ensures compliancy with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures in all duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Frequently on-call, occasional shift work, and overtime.

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Valid driver's license and obtain and maintain a valid Class A commercial driver's license within 90 days of employment.
  • Additional Requirement for Fleet Service Technician II - 3 years of equipment and/or automotive service work.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • For Fleet Service Technician I - 2 years of equipment and/or automotive service work
  • ASE certification
  • EVT Certification
  • HVAC recovery certification

  • Please Note: employee will be responsible for providing their own basic automotive hand tool set within the first 90 days of employment.
