DHS operates as an integrated health system, operating 25 health centers and four acute care hospitals, in addition to providing health care to youth in the juvenile justice system and inmates in the LA County jails. For additional information regarding DHS please visit advance the health of our patients and our communities by providing extraordinary care.DEFINITION:Cleans and maintains carpeted and uncarpeted floor surfaces in County buildings or hospitals. Examines carpeted and uncarpeted floors to be cleaned and selects appropriate methods and techniques from established procedures.Moves furniture and heavy objects, sweeps floors using dust mop, and vacuums and removes spots from carpets in preparation for cleaning.Mixes shampoo solution and applies by operating an electrically-powered carpet cleaning machine weighing at least 50 pounds to clean carpeted floors in rooms and hallways.Removes spots from carpets by hand using cleaning solution, cloths, and brushes; must identify the kind of spot, type and grade of carpet material, and test for color-fastness.Operates electrically-powered rotary floor machines such as scrubber and buffer machines weighing at least 50 pounds to strip wax and polish a variety of floor surfaces, such as wood, marble, terrazzo, linoleum, and vinyl and asphalt tile; controls direction of machine with a pulling and pushing motion.Mixes and applies stripping and rinsing solutions to waxed floor surfaces by hand, using a heavy mop.Uses a wet pick up vacuum and mop to remove stripped solution.Applies floor wax using wet mop.Oils, cleans, and changes belts and minor parts on floor and carpet cleaning tools and equipment and maintains a daily record of work performed.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Six (6) months' experience in cleaning office buildings, hospital, or similar facilities including but not limited to health centers, hotels, jails, or residential care facilities.LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE:This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Additional points will be awarded for additional experience beyond the Minimum Requirements.IMPORTANT NOTICE:Prime Variance Reports (PVRs), also known as Master Time Records, are not accepted, or required as part of the application process; this includes the selection interview and the background-check.EXAMINATION CONTENT:This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted 100%.Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:Applications will be processed on an as-received basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.SPECIAL INFORMATIONAVAILABLE SHIFT:Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.FAIR CHANCE INITIATIVE:The County of Los Angeles is a Fair Chance employer.
