Description The Newport News Sheriff's Office is seeking a Part-Time Floor Technician. This is an overnight position not to exceed 29 hours in a week.GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Floor Technician is responsible for the floor care and maintenance of public and restricted access areas within the Newport News Sheriff's Office. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs all types of floor care and maintenance of floors to include hard surfaces and carpeting
  • Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
  • Strip, seal, finish and polish floors
  • Operates floor cleaning machinery
  • Cleans and performs routine maintenance on floor equipment
  • Maintains logs and checklist
  • Maintains supplies by properly stocking and restocking
  • Maintain storage areas and equipment for cleanliness and in good working order
  • Mixes chemicals according to specifications
Performs other duties as assigned. Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology to meet strict deadlines. REQUIRED ABILITIES Coordination of Work - Ability to establish and implement effective administrative programs and procedures. Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. EDUCATION High School Diploma or G.E.D Certificate Related experience in floor care maintenance and floor care equipment preferred REQUIREMENTS •Must be 21 years of age •Acceptable background check and acceptable credit check •Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record •Pre-Employment drug screen and physical, annually thereafter. •Refrain from all use of controlled substances and are subject to random controlled substances testing. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort. -Some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. -Some lifting to include overhead lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (40-70 pounds). SENSORY REQUIREMENTS -Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. -Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as odors, hazardous materials, disease, and pathogenic substances.
