Position Summary: The P&A Rig Floor Hand is a vital member of the rig crew, responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operations during plug and abandonment (P&A) of oil and gas wells. This role involves performing various tasks on the rig floor, handling drilling tools, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.Key Roles / Responsibilities:
- Assists in setting up, operating, and maintaining rig floor equipment, including tongs, slips, and other drilling tools.
- Handles drill pipe, casing, and other tubulars during tripping operations.
- Operates manual and automated equipment to support well plugging and abandonment activities.
- Maintains a clean and organized rig floor, ensuring all tools and equipment are in proper working condition.
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures, ensuring personal safety and the safety of the crew.
- Participates in safety meetings, drills, and regular inspections.
- Reports any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions to the Rig Manager or Toolpusher immediately.
- Supports well control operations by properly using and maintaining well control equipment.
- Assists in pressure testing and monitoring well conditions during P&A operations.
- Performs routine maintenance on rig floor equipment, ensuring all machinery operates efficiently.
- Assists in the inspection and repair of equipment as needed, working closely with the rig mechanics.
- Works closely with other crew members, including the Derrick hand, Driller, and Toolpusher, to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicates effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and manage rig operations.
- Assists in maintaining accurate records of rig operations, including time sheets, job logs, and equipment usage.
- Ensures all required documentation is completed and submitted on time.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Floor Hand or in a similar role within the oil and gas industry is preferred.
- Experience in P&A operations is a plus.
- Strong understanding of rig floor operations and equipment.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and perform tasks that require strength and stamina.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Proficiency in basic mechanical skills and equipment maintenance.
- Well Control Certification (IWCF or IADC) is preferred.
- Valid H2S Safety Certification.
- First Aid and CPR Certification is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
- The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
- Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
