Summary:The ARC (Animal Recovery Center) and CARE (Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment) facilities are dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of victims of cruelty and neglect admitted through NYPD and the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs.Our dedicated team of more than 45 sheltering, medical, and animal behavior professionals work closely with the ASPCA Animal Hospital, Forensics, Legal Advocacy and Investigations, Behavioral Sciences, Shelter Medicine Services, Community Engagement, Placement, and the Adoption Center teams to ensure coordinated response and operations, and holistic, balanced, high quality care for the animals we serve.The Floor Manager, ARC (the Manager) will be part of a high performing team and will serve as an integral part of the Animal Recovery Center team. With the Floor Manager team, the Manager will oversee and lead the day-to-day operations. The Manager will provide impactful coaching and team performance management, elevating the quality of patient care in ARC.The Manager will collaborate with the medical and behavior teams to champion canine and feline populations equally and enthusiastically. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring the team provides and maintains a high standard of animal care and welfare, including general husbandry, kennel and facility cleanliness, appropriate kennel housing, consistent and engaging enrichment, timely and accurate medication and treatment administration and proficiency in reading animal body language and recognizing and mitigating indicators of stress and illness.This position directly manages the Integrated Care Assistant (ICA) team working on the 2nd shift. The hours are Tuesday - Thursday 1p-9p, Friday and Saturday 11a-7p and include one weekend day. Days off are Sunday and Monday.Responsibilities:Responsibilities include but are not limited to:People Management (40 %): On the Floor Management, Rounds/Huddles, Animal CareSupport staff scheduling including creating and adjusting daily assignments, receiving, and approving time off requests, documenting shift changes, handling call outs, managing overtime sign ups and approval, and critical shortage staffing plans.Manage, and be present on the floor, to support the direct care work. Problem solve with the team in the moment by providing consistent feedback. Organize and re-organize the work as needed for new intakes, staffing, and emergent needs.Model the Leadership Big 3: set clear expectations, give feedback, and receive feedback, and ensure opportunities for growth and development.Forge authentic relationships to support a strong and positive team culture that works together with high level of accountability. Support staff in professional handling of conflict.Build and maintain high-performing teams. Utilize training, coaching and continuous feedback to drive high performance and ensure the teams have what they need to be successful.Conduct regular floor walkthroughs ensuring protocol compliance and cleanliness. Provide feedback and collaborate with medical, behavior, direct care, and admin teams to ensure respective tasks are completed.Always maintain adequate staffing levels; re-assign appropriate responsibilities to each staff member to maximize coverage in the event of call outs, injuries, increased intake volume, etc.Support staff in appropriate and professional handling of any adverse client or patient events.Conduct regular check-ins and annual performance reviews of direct reports, taking appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary.Approve payroll and track employee attendance in adherence to ASPCA's Attendance Policy, recommending updates to scheduling and staffing protocols.Conduct time and attendance audits regularly, ensuring regular and reliable attendance, and taking appropriate disciplinary action as needed. Create, schedule, and lead disciplinary meetings in collaboration with People Team Partner.On call responsibilities: Respond to and manage before/after-hours calls regarding animal care, facilities and staffing needs, storm preparedness, and new case logistical planning on rotation with the leadership team. Keep the ARC Director apprised of any issues.Perform all the duties of the ARC ICA position as needed.Team Leadership (40 %): Hiring, Onboarding, Training, SOPsWith the Director, ensure the ARC ICA team is fully staffed at all times. Immediately recruit and hire for vacant positions.Execute onboarding and training plans for all new hires. Create a rotating training schedule, coordinate walk approvals, and ensure new staff can work independently at the end of onboarding. Send training reports and onboarding feedback to Senior Leadership and adjust training plans as needed.Onboard and train per diem employees and determine appropriate coverageWith the Director, prepare the monthly ARC Team Meeting agendas for thought provoking, engaging, team centric meetings that broaden the knowledge of the team and promote active participation and opportunities for team and individual growth.Connect the ARC ICA team with the work of the AAH/ARC/CARE department and the organization. Provide timely updates about our cases, important team milestones, outcomes, and placements to continuously engage the team and promote learning.Oversee, create, and support adherence to all ASPCA Animal Hospital/ARC/CARE protocols, including behavior, medical, nutrition, safety, and sanitation.Oversee and schedule all staff completion of mandatory trainings, compliance trainings, team meetings and all other needs requiring staff to be off the floor. Ensure appropriate floor coverage during trainings and meetings.With the ARC and CARE Management Team ensure both paper and digital protocol books are up to date. Manage regular protocol book review process quarterly with all ICAs.Monitor employee effectiveness and provide consistent feedback to ensure excellent quality of care for animals, pursuant to ASPCA policies and Fear Free Guidelines.Monitor and report team concerns and observations to the Medical and Behavior teams. Effectively communicate and oversee constant changes to handling, walk orders, PPE, medical and behavior treatments.Foster a positive and productive work environment where patient care, client service and our mission are a priority.Listen to and understand employee concerns, encouraging staff to solve problems and provide viable solutions. Appropriately address and elevate concerns to ARC Senior Leadership for timely resolution.Cover the Director of ARC in their absence.Operations/Facility (20%): Facility Safety, Operations, and Sanitation, Animal Flow, Special projectsEnsure safety needs are met; incident reports and performance reports are completely and accurately filled out, submitted to benefits, legal and safety team; readily reporting workers' compensation claims, benefits, and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests are sent to the benefits team.Ensure the ARC facility is safe, clean, and in good working order. All maintenance needs are quickly identified and addressed in a timely manner through clear and consistent communication with our Facilities team partners.Coordinate new case medical and forensic needs with the ASPCA Animal Hospital, including but not limited to, radiographs, ultrasounds, emergency surgery, wound treatments and other emergent medical and forensic patient needs upon admission.Create, audit, and maintain (daily) animal medical, safety, and operational signage.Audit walk equipment, ID collars, kennel ID cards daily to ensure that information is up to date and in good order.With the Director of ARC, oversee daily change of shift rounds and after rounds huddles to ensure optimal workflow and empower teams to problem solve.Collaborate with Facilities and IT teams to address concerns impacting operations. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience.
