Location : MN, MN Job Type: Non-Exempt, Support Staff, Full Time Job Number: 01862 Department: Dining Service - SJU Opening Date: 07/10/2024 Position Summary The Dining Services Department at Saint John's University invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit eligible position of Food Production II. $1,000 sign-on bonus valid through September 30, 2024. *Terms applied to sign-on bonus can be provided by hiring manager. This position is responsible for the food production of all regular meals that are served in the Abbey and Saint John's University (SJU) dining areas and of specialty items for campus wide catered functions. It is classified as essential staff, meaning the role is crucial to the organization and requires reporting to work during emergencies or situations where non-essential staff may not be needed.   • Production of all regular and special meals that are served to the Abbey residents and campus students.
  • Production of specialty food items for campus wide catered functions within the St. John's community.
  • Produce food that is of high quality and attractively presented at all times.
  • Train and provide direction to food production student staff in a way that contributes to their skill development in the field.
  • Assist in keeping standardized recipes updated and accurate through usage and feedback.
  • Make edits to daily production sheets to best utilize time and resources.
  • Accurately complete production sheets for future food projections.
  • Record and requests food supplies from the warehouse.
  • Assist in maintaining department sanitation and safety standards (clean uniforms, sanitary work habits, organized work areas, use of cleaners, etc.)
  • Always follow established food safety rules to protect public safety. Maintain a clean uniform and personal appearance.
  • Able to operate, or learn to operate, all production equipment. Including, but not limited to: slicers, mixers, ovens, steamers.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required department meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide input and feedback that suggests new menu ideas, cost saving ideas, and service improvements to our customers.
  • Work cooperatively with a variety of diverse people in a respectful, collaborative way.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified in food safety, or ability to achieve certification within 12 months of hire.
  • 1-2 years of experience in food production.
  • Knowledge of cycle menus, computerized production records, and warehouse requests.
  • Familiar with, able to use and adhere to standardized recipes.
  • Skilled at working with a variety of individuals and able work cooperatively with all members of the community.
  • Projects a positive, professional image. Maintains a high level of competence, good judgment, and sound decision-making skills.
  • Available to work rotating shifts and overtime as requested; this may include some evening and weekend assignments as required by departmental schedules.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally; lesser amounts frequently.
  • Frequent pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent exposure to cleaning and sanitizing solutions; use of single use and reusable gloves.

AFLAC SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE This voluntary plan offers an additional level of financial protection for you and your family in the event of a serious accident or illness. LIFE INSURANCE CSB/SJU provides a Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) policy to employees. This insurance is effective on the first of the month following date of hire. The amount of term insurance provided is based on your annual salary as follows: Salary Life Insurance $0-$20,000 $50,000 $20,001-$37,500 $75,000 $37,501-$50,000 $90,000 $50,001+ $100,000 Employer provided life insurance in excess of $50,000 is subject to imputed income tax (a tax on the value of the premium). You may also purchase additional life insurance in increments of one, two, three, or four times your annual salary. There is also a dependent life insurance package available. LONG-TERM DISABILITY After one year of benefit eligible employment, CSB/SJU provides disability coverage in the event of an illness or injury that prevents you from working. This plan provides a benefit that equals 60% of your basic monthly earnings to a maximum monthly benefit of $11,000. This benefit may be payable, provided the employee is unable to perform the usual and customary duties of his/her occupation. VACATION Paid vacation is accrued based upon FTE and the number of years employed. Vacation is cumulative from year to year to a maximum of 240 hours. VISION PLAN This voluntary plan offers affordable vision coverage for routine eye exams, eyeglass lenses and frames, and contact lenses. Discounts on hearing exams and hearing aids are also included. TUITION REMISSION Tuition remission is an educational benefit provided by CSB/SJU. A full time employee and spouse (if applicable) are eligible for tuition free educational benefits the first full semester after six months of employment. The payment of special fees is the responsibility of the employee. Full time employees may enroll for one undergraduate course per term, which includes summer; up to a maximum of 2 courses per year. There is also a tuition remission program for dependent children of full time employees. This program provides a financial resource to a son or daughter for meeting the tuition costs of undergraduate education. Eligibility begins the fall or spring semester following 2 years (24 months) of continuous full-time employment. CSB/SJU will grant tuition remission the next full semester to the dependent, providing the dependent meets the academic requirements. There are also two consortia programs in which CSB/SJU participate where employees' children may apply for scholarships to attend other colleges/universities. PARENTAL LEAVE A paid leave (up to 15 days) will be granted to eligible employees upon the birth or adoption of a child, pro-rated based on FTE. New employees are eligible for this benefit after twelve months of employment. SICK LEAVE Full-time employees earn up to 9 days of sick leave per year, pro-rated based on FTE. Sick leave is cumulative from year to year up to a maximum of 720 hours (90 days). Employees may also use accumulated personal sick leave to care for ill family members. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free counseling resource available to all employees and immediate family members. EAP counselors can help you identify problems and concerns regarding family, marriage, emotions, alcohol or drugs, financial difficulties, legal issues and job stress. All contacts between you, your family, and the EAP are provided as a benefit from CSB/SJU and are kept strictly confidential. RETIREMENT Defined Contribution Plan CSB/SJU provides a retirement program for all qualified full time employees. The program is administered by Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA). Enrollment in the retirement plan will be effective the first day of the month following the date of hire unless the employee elects to opt-out. TUITION ASSISTANCE The tuition assistance plan is an educational grant provided by CSB/SJU to a qualified son or daughter of a full time employee toward meeting the tuition costs at Saint John's Preparatory School. The dependent must meet the eligibility criteria in order to receive this grant.
