RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Food Safety and Quality Control Manager, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality at our Stock Yards Meat Production Facility. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the internal quality audit function, ensuring that corrective and preventative actions are effectively implemented within the plant's Quality Management System.
- Acting as the HACCP Coordinator, overseeing recalls and ensuring seamless coordination during product risk assessments and risk management planning.
- Driving continuous improvement in sanitation, food safety, quality, and preventative maintenance by attending and contributing to site leadership meetings.
- Enforcing production suspensions as necessary to maintain food safety and quality continuity.
- Ensuring compliance with all USDA, FDA, State, and local regulations, acting as the primary liaison with these agencies.
- Developing and implementing site-specific programs for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs), allergen control, and more.
- Creating and conducting training programs aimed at enhancing employee knowledge and adherence to food safety protocols.
- Managing thevalidation and verification processes for HACCP and SSOP, as well as coordinating with third-party laboratories for necessary testing.
- Preparing for third-party audits and conducting supplier audits as required.
- Maintaining sanitation requirements across all relevant areas of the facility.
- Collaborating with management, sales, and customers to address product returns and complaints, implementing needed corrective actions.
- Building and managing vendor relationships to ensure food safety compliance for all raw materials.
- Ensuring labeling adherence to USDA/FDA regulations.
- Collecting, analyzing, and trending data on applicable programs.
- Reviewing Pest Control logs from external services and coordinating necessary corrective actions.
- For RTE (Ready to Eat) facilities specifically, coordinating hygienic zoning and flow controls.
- If applicable, managing export programs, including audits and certification processes, while ensuring all necessary documentation is accurate and up to date.
SUPERVISION: You will lead sanitation activities and manage any quality technicians within the plant.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Support operations associates at the plant level and maintain effective corporate communications.
External: Interact with various agencies including USDA, FDA, local authorities, auditing companies, vendors, and customers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires you to work in a refrigerated environment ranging from 35°F to 45°F, as well as in a freezer environment between -10°F and +10°F, with appropriate company-provided apparel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience leading a plant food safety program.
- Preferred 5 years of experience in a food service processing and distribution environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety training, sanitation practices (SSOP & GMP), and USDA quality troubleshooting.
- A background in the meat industry is required, alongside experience with food safety/quality programs in a meat production context.
- Experience in the design, measurement, documentation, and training of HACCP plans is essential; a formal HACCP training/certification is preferred.
EDUCATION:
A 4-year college degree or equivalent training/certification in Animal Science, Food Safety, or Veterinary Science is preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/TRAINING:
GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiatives for HACCP Certification).

- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities, with proficiency in written and verbal communication.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that allow you to build positive relationships with employees and external parties at all organizational levels.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must be able to perform specific physical activities as required by the role.
Compensation will depend on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other applicable factors. The expected base salary for this role ranges from $55,000 to $90,000, with an opportunity to receive an annual incentive plan bonus.
