POSITION DESCRIPTIONPosition Title: Food Safety and Quality Associate Position Reports To:Director of Quality Assurance and Food SafetyPositions Supervised:NAPOSITION PURPOSEThe primary focus of this position is to develop and train the individual to prepare them to take on roles of increased complexity in the organization in Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory. As part of the FSQA Associate role, the Associate will go through job training that enables them to become familiar with the workflow of the business operations, and to develop knowledge of production processes, including good manufacturing practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), FDA, food safety, quality, process control and regulatory compliance. Associates will be exposed to several areas to learn skills and gain knowledge necessary to succeed in a Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory leadership role.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:Individuals will be assigned key projects assigned by site leadership and will be responsible for overseeing and managing several food safety and quality programs at the plant with a primary emphasis on monitoring the processing activities of the various departments within the facility. Will assist site leadership in promoting and leading a Food Safety and Safety culture within the plant.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement food safety and quality policies and procedures.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System that encompasses training personnel, developing processes, communicating with leadership, and promoting continuous improvement efforts.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the production facilities to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
- Provide food safety and quality training to relevant staff members.
- Investigate and resolve any food safety issues or violations.
- Prepare reports on food safety activities and compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding any risks or non-compliance issues.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure food safety protocols are being followed.
- Participate in a committee and engagement activities.
- Collaborate with FSQA Supervisor and laboratory technicians to complete quality tasks.
- Assist FSQA Supervisor with daily assessment of process quality parameters and food safety and quality systems, including raw materials, calibration, maintenance, procedures, food safety, training, auditing, and oversight of analytical testing performed in operations control rooms.
- Assist in the preparation and creation of reports for FSQA objectives and performance measures.
- Provide back-up assistance for FSQA Director and Supervisor,.
- Collaborate across the organization to standardize testing and reporting.
- Participate in maintenance and preparation for SQF and Customer audit programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree from four-year college/university in a related science or technical field. Be willing to receive certifications for:
- Food Safety and GMP Auditing
- PCQI (preventive controls qualified individual).
- HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control points).
- SQF
- Food Defense
Knowledge AND EXPERIENCE:
- Basic food safety knowledge with specific emphasis on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs), labeling, food additives, sanitation, and food microbiology.
- Experience in applying statistical and quality management tools: such as control charts, histograms, capability studies, etc.
- Strong leadership and technical skills.
- Demonstrated ability of collaboration, communication, motivation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and successful completion of work.
- Moderate computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, and database navigation)
- Experience applying Continuous Improvement concepts.
- Ability to be flexible to meet business needs.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION: Time will be split between an office, laboratory and plant environment. May include multiple steps and/or bending, reaching, or stooping. Temperatures may fluctuate.PHYSICAL STRENGTH: This job may require lifting of up to 50 pounds occasionally.
