Food Safety Specialist

Job Classification: Salaried Exempt

Reports to: FSQA Manager

The Food Safety Specialist role will be responsible for maintaining, organizing, and administering the programs, policies and certifications that support the Food Safety and HACCP plans for Richelieu Foods. This role will facilitate the organizational readiness to meet all regulatory requirements, customer expectations and adherence to all operational and mechanical requirements. This role will be responsible for facilitating the training of our Food Safety programs and leading the efforts to facilitate our Food Safety Culture.

Essential Functions

* Demonstrate and have a firm understanding of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and FDA/USDA regulations.

* Assists with the development, maintenance, and organization of FSQA documentation, SOP's, Procedures and Policies as needed.

* Function as SME for FSQA programs; support audit readiness initiatives and attend cross functional meetings, as necessary.

* Support and maintain all compliance and certification requirements (RSPO, Organic, Vegan, GFCO, etc.)

* Co-lead and support all corresponding annual audits, communications, and policy updates.

* Co-leads, tracks and supports all CAPA's associated with PC and HACCP deviations.

* Assists with the maintenance of Customer portals, Internal FSQA databases, Tracegains and Repositrak, as necessary.

* Actively monitors, documents, and works to improve food safety related opportunities Lead and facilitate projects, challenge/validation studies to drive continuous improvement around food safety.

* Assist in developing, maintaining, and championing our Food Safety and Quality Culture.

* Perform FSMA/HACCP/SSOP training as needed and update HACCP/SSOP programs annually.

* Partner with others; sharing knowledge, skills and information with your team and other cross-functional areas.

* Remain current on all FSMA, USDA and FDA regulations; Ensure all necessary changes are implemented and communicated in a timely manner to ensure compliance.

* Support and assist with USDA Non-Conformance (NR) responses, appeals and weekly meetings.

* Demonstrate growth in their technical and functional competencies as well as professional and leadership development.

Basic Qualifications

* PCQI Certification

* HAACP Certification

* SQF Knowledge required.

* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality role within a food manufacturing facility

* Experience working with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)

* USDA Experience is preferred.

* Must be adaptable to schedule.

* Ability to make decisions, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Desired Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in food science, Biology or related field or comparable years of Industry experience within the food industry

Competencies

* Ability to read, write and interpret documents and policies.

* Ability to draft reports and correspondence and speak effectively.

* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.

* Ability to support or lead third party audits and support customer requests or inquiries.

* Ability to train others.
