Collaborating closely with the Blazer Bistro Manager and Food Services Director, this role ensures the safety and sanitation of food service areas and works independently to maintain cafeteria functionality while serving as head cook. Additionally, this position provides support for catering, espresso, and concession operations as needed.The regular schedule for this position will be 6:30AM to 3PM Monday through Friday. This position may be required to work extended hours, weekends and evening to ensure adequate coverage of food services. It is essential the incumbent keep an up-to-date food handlers permit with the State of Washington.Duties and Responsibilities* Leads food preparation and cooking for the cafeteria, bistro and caterings events. May cut, wrap, and store meat, fish, and poultry; May bake desserts and pastries such as pies, cakes, and cookies. Prepares and cooks a variety of food items, including vegetables, soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizza while following menus, recipes, and instructions, adjusting quantities based on demand.* Examines prepared food to ensure appropriate quantity, quality, and handling; trains assigned staff in food preparation and proper handing techniques.* Operates all food equipment such as mixers, ovens, shredders, fryer, grill and steam kettles.* Assists in preparing menus and determining amount of food to meet menu requirements; keeps records and makes reports; submits inventory requirements to director.* Leads and participates in the cleaning of kitchen and equipment; assures that standards of sanitation and safety are met; address concerns and suggest changes to director.* Inventories and maintains necessary supplies and goods for assigned meals.* Leads and participates in the storage and utilization of leftover ingredients and products; rotates stock* Assists Food Service Director and Blazer Bistro Manager with all catering functions that require onsite support, espresso and concessions stand operations during and outside business hours.* Ensure successful use of computer to utilize Microsoft Office products; regularly check and respond to Outlook emails; utilize ctcLink to submit timesheets and leave requests.* Assist with opening/closing cafeteria functions such as daily deposits and cash counts.* Pick up mail; receive, unload, move and process inventory, packages, and freight, up to 50lbs.Qualifications* Two years' cooking experience in a large-scale food services or culinary operation* Completion of course in large-scale cooking may be substituted for one year of experiencePreferred Qualifications* Experience working in a school cafeteria* Experience working in auxiliary services of an institution of higher educationConditions of EmploymentThis is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time professional technical overtime eligible exempt position. The salary is $42,000 - $48,000 (DOQ/DOE) annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees.
