Position Type: Food Service/Food Service Director Date Posted: 10/4/2024 Location: Kemper County Superintendents Office TITLE: Food Service Director QUALIFICATIONS: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four year college or university including a minimum of nine (9) hours food and nutrition or food systems management, and six (6) hours of educational administration, business, management or accounting. REPORTS TO: Superintendent JOB GOALS: To ensure the efficient implementation of the Food Service Program in compliance with the Mississippi State Department of Education and the local school board by planning, organizing and administrating all phases of the food service operation. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Mission and Goal
  • Works with the Superintendent and those whom he/she supervises to articulate and promote the school system's vision of learning and teaching.
  • Communicates and follows established procedures in the Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards and other applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Distributes and reviews job descriptions with all staff.
  • Studies and follows district policies established by the Board of Education.
  • General Performance Responsibilities
  • Supervises, directs and trains managers of individual units and assists managers in
  • training other employees.
  • Provides leadership and direction for total staff.
  • Provides on the job training.
  • Establishes and enforces standards for personal appearance and cleanliness.
  • Determines personnel needed in each school and makes recommendations for hiring.
  • Evaluates individual school operations and program management.
  • Acts as liaison to the state child nutrition office, vendors, school staff, and parents.
  • Evaluates the performance of food service personnel
  • Plans menus in accordance with nutrient standards.
  • a. Determines meal pattern to be used and implements its execution. b. Determines portions to be used according to grade levels. c. Submits weekly food order to vendor. d. Assists managers and personnel in food preparation and serving. e. Ensures that food is handled and served properly. f. Orders commodities and implements into menus. g. Reviews planning and production books of managers. h. Monitors food and supply inventories.
  • Provides procurement and financial management of the department.
  • Prepares the departmental budget.
  • Prepares, distributes, and evaluates bids and quotes on all products, supplies, and equipment used in the food service program.
  • Completes purchase requisitions for items needed in the total operation of the department.
  • Monitors expenditures in accordance with budget and state guidelines.
  • Receives invoices, process with purchase orders and other documents, and in accordance to general ledger accounts, before sending to central accounting.
  • Compiles daily participation reports and prepares monthly claim report for reimbursement to the state department.
  • Submits monthly departmental payroll to district.
  • Prepares and submits monthly financial report to the district.
  • Prepares invoices and records payments of special functions.
  • Provides administration of free and reduced price program.
  • Receives and approves applications for free and reduce meals.
  • Notifies parents of application status.
  • Maintains and updates master roster as needed.
  • Ensures cashiers record daily participation according to application status.
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Superintendent.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten, eleven, or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
