Position Description The Food Service Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the Food Services Department of Harlem United in accordance with contractual requirements. Responsible for handling all governmental regulatory agency inspections and taking corrective action to address findings from Department of Health site visits. Essential Job Functions The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:
  • Monitoring compliance with all services standards and contractual services requirements. Ensures that all food service personnel know the proper portions and ingredients of menu items; maintains a congenial and efficient service flow; responds to and handles member complaints.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions of the food services areas; ensure that basic food handling procedures are followed and are in accordance with state and local health department regulations.
  • Plan, directs, and assists in preparing and serving meals, adheres to and enforces portion control in food preparation.
  • Responsible for ordering, receiving, and controlling inventory of all products; maintains all records pertaining to ordering, receiving, and inventory in accordance with agency requirements and other contractual requirements. Ensures all ordered items are received; if not, adjusts invoice to reflect missing item.
  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating all kitchen staff.
  • Plan menus in close collaboration with our agency nutritionist, food service staff, and cooks from contracted meal programs, such as Food and Nutrition (FNS) Program.
  • Assist in the training and supervising of food services staff and Stipend workers.
  • Promotes and maintains a safe and sanitary environment according to the necessary codes of the New York State Department of Health.
  • Maintains Productive interdepartmental communications to identify and solve problems and sustains the operational flow of production. Participates in relevant meetings, as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining records of repair and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Provide backup staffing for the Food and Nutrition (FNS) program.
  • Assist in the orientation of the FNS Director and Nutritionist.
  • Follow-up with any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or the Vice President of the Adult Day Health Care Center.
Qualifications The ideal candidate should have an Associate or certificate in culinary arts, from an approved college, University, or technical school.
  • A certificate from the New York State Department of Health in Food protection is required.
  • Must have (4) years minimum experience of food production experience and three (3) years in the field.
  • Must have the ability to supervise and motivate other food service staff.
