Your dedication to creating a safe and enjoyable environment for our patrons is rewarded with more than just a paycheck. -Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS) enrollment and contribution -Potential Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility -Gain hands on experience and develop skills you will use beyond summer employment -Networking opportunities within the community -Participation in exciting city events GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the administrative supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and direct supervision of the Pool Manager, ensure the health and safety of patrons through: careful observation of the pool and surrounding areas; effective response to emergency situations; enforcement of pool safety policies and procedures, perform general office duties, and monitor the main entrance. General Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: For purposes of 42 USC 12101: 90% (1) Perform general office work such as: word processing, filing, processing registrations; maintaining records; generate reports; greet visitors; answer questions by phone and in person; following financial procedures; problem solving and providing specific department information. Monitor the main entrance. Regularly update bulletin boards and signage. Follow procedures for clearing the facility due to inclement weather, emergencies, rest periods, drills and closing. Assist in maintaining the facility in a safe and clean matter. Assist in the implementing of special events. 5% (2) Attend all assigned meetings, assist with in-service trainings and inform supervisors of suggestions or ideas that could better the City operation. Enforce safety policies and procedures, and maintains disciplinary action as necessary. Maintain equipment and report problems to supervisor. Inform supervisor of items needing special attention and communicate with staff. Assist in the development of goals and objectives. (3) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 5% (4) Performs other job related duties as necessary. RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age. Enrollment in High School or higher education; or possession of High School Diploma or equivalent (i.e. G.E.D.). LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be American Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR/AED and First Aid certified. The City will pay for certifications. MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (*indicates developed after employment) Knowledge of: *City and departmental goals, objectives, and functions; public relations; parks and recreation management; standard office practices; first aid. Skill in: computer operation (including software/applications such as Microsoft Office, recreation management software, etc.); use of modern office equipment; interpersonal communication; organization and time management; spelling, grammar, and mathematics; customer service; first aid. Ability to: read, analyze, and understand various directives and regulations; perform mathematical calculations; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; apply principles to solve practical problems; deal with variety of variables in somewhat unfamiliar context; communicate effectively, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, coworkers, department heads, officials, and general public; travel to and gain access to work site(s); use and operate AED, backboard, C-collar, various first aid and cleaning supplies, etc. Other Desirable AttributesEQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Personal computer (including software/applications); miscellaneous office equipment; first aid equipment (AED, backboard, C-collar, bandages, etc.) INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment as well as aquatic facilities (e.g., chlorine, muriatic acid, toner, correction fluid, etc.); is exposed to possible injury from unclean or unsanitary conditions; is exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, and windy weather conditions; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; sharp objects, needles, and medical instruments; blood, bodily tissues, and fluids; potentially dangerous/fatal infectious diseases; may work an irregular shift; may work in and around noisy conditions; has exposure to life threatening situations; administers first aid.
