Position Type: Classified StaffDate Posted: 10/2/2024Location: STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENTPOSITION PURPOSE: A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who practices under the ongoing supervision of a Board-Certified Licensed Behavior Technician (BCBA or BCaBA). Works under the direct supervision of Beaufort County School District administrator in the supervision and instruction of students in a variety of settings, including the community and classroom; to assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Individualized Education Plans or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students identified with behavioral needs; attend student progress meetings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst or Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst:
  • Assist with direct observation of students and supporting staff on implementation of student behavior plans and related goals.
  • Given guidelines and parameters provided, collect, record and summarize data on observable student behavior.
  • Regular implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and other evidence-based interventions.
  • Work with students individually and in groups at various locations, assisting with specific instructional and behavior goals
  • When specifically advised, interact with parents, community agencies, educators, and service providers.
  • Discuss collected data with the BCBA or BCaBA and assist with program modifications to ensure the child continues to progress
  • Assist with preference assessment to ensure the child is continually motivated during teaching.
  • Attend team meetings to provide on-going feedback related to student behavior
  • Intervene in emergency situations involving behaviors that have potential to cause to harm to self or others.
  • Participate in ongoing related training as required and provided by the school district.
  • Assist classroom teacher in reinforcing classroom and school-wide expectations to help promote a positive learning environment and make progress on student goals.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent. QUALIFICATIONS: Instructional Assistants must meet No Child Left Behind and District compliance for Paraprofessional Highly Qualified status:
  • Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) must have a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent. Bachelor's degree is preferred. In addition, annual demonstration of completion and passing of Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification with the Behavior Analysis Certification Board. This can be obtained within the first 90 calendar days of job assignment.
EXPERIENCE: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer operations and functions, use of the Internet and Microsoft Office applications, and skill in the use of general office equipment such as calculators, typewriters, copier, etc. Other equipment includes wheelchair lifts, ramps, Hoyer lift, Gait trainer, and/or other assistive equipment or technology. Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of interventions for working with students with behavioral needs.
  • Self-starter, self-directed, able to work effectively both independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to follow appropriate safety precaution guidelines and procedures and make judgment calls during a crisis, across all school settings and activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, firmness, compassion, courtesy, and consistency.
  • Implement programs developed by a BCBA or BCaBA to help build verbal behavior, daily living skills, and social skills
  • Ability to collect and monitor data in a systematic manner using the tools available.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information. Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by Behavioral Analysis Certification Board.
  • Ability to interpret and implement Behavior Plans, teaching or lesson plans, and other written guidelines.
  • Ability to perform related duties such as filing and correctly storing student documentation as required by FERPA/HIPPA.
  • Demonstrate the capabilities of taking specific direction, carrying out those directions, and providing feedback on the success and outcomes of those directions.
  • Ability to act quickly and effectively in emergencies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands while performing the duties of this job include climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands/arms, standing actively for extended periods of time, walking, using hands and fingers to key data, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; talking and hearing; reaching, pushing and pulling with hands/arms; close and distant vision, ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move 25 lbs. Environmental factors: Assist in toileting, including diapering; feeding or oral facilitation; assist with personal hygiene for some students; venting gastrointestinal tube, suctioning (training provided); lifting and positioning disabled students. Adequate physical strength and mobility are required to implement strategies for de-escalation, emergency intervention, including lifting and moving students in an upset emotional state and implementation of de-escalation strategies and/or physical restraints in order to ensure safety.
