JOHNSTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: FUEL TRUCK OPERATORTRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT Reports To: Executive Director of Transportation Term: 12 Months Grade:67GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under general supervision, performs maintenance and repair work in the School System TransportationDepartment. Work involves operating a fuel delivery vehicle and fueling vehicles on an assigned route;evaluating the condition of vehicle tires and reporting worn or defective tires to the MaintenanceSupervisor and tire specialist. Employee is also responsible for performing minor vehicle sub-assemblychecks and making necessary repairs; performing engine oil and oil filter changes; and performingchassis lubrication. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor for fuel truck assignments. Duties may alsoinclude being assigned a shop stall. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDemonstrate a safety mindset at all times; safe buses for students, safe working environment for fellowworkers and monitoring safe movements of school and activity buses while operating on public streetsand highways are the paramount criteria for this position. Must be aware of and understand pertinentOSHA requirements for fuel spills and clean up procedures.Operates fuel delivery vehicles; load fuel tanker at bulk fuel facility; fuel school and activity buses onscheduled date and time on assigned route; maintain accurate records of dispensed fuel and providefuel accounting documentation directly to the Cost Clerk for entry into the Business System InformationPortal (BSIP).Maintains accurate accounting of truck inventory.Performs minor vehicle sub-assembly checks; makes necessary repairs and replacements.Performs engine oil changes and oil filter changes; performs chassis lubrication.Responds to off-site fuel outages.Assist Route and Shop Mechanics with maintenance of vehicles on their assigned routes and in shop.ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssist body shop mechanic with preparation, sanding, taping and painting of school and activity buses asneeded.Performs other related work as required.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSWithin 90 days of hire date, successfully complete the bus class to acquire CDL B w/ P, S & T.CDL training is provided by the school district.Possession of a valid Class B CDL with P, S & T endorsements without manual restriction preferred.MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED certification preferred.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIREDTO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machineryincluding trucks, hydraulic lifts, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/orup to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Mustbe able to lift and/or carry weights of 50 to 100 pounds. Physical demand requirements are for Mediumto Heavy Work.Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional,structural, or compositional characteristics of data, people or things.Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to conveyor exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.Language Ability: Requires the ability to prepare work orders, time cards, and vehiclemaintenance reports.Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, tofollow oral and written instructions.Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtracttotals; to multiply and divide; and to determine percentages and decimals.Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately inusing mechanical equipment and machinery; to operate motor vehicles.Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, equipment and machinery,control knobs, switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receivinginstructions.
