Basic FunctionThis position is responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the general condition of the areaof the building to which he or she is assigned. The individual must be able to effectivelycommunicate and interact with staff, community members, parents and students.This position reports to and is evaluated by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, inconsultation with the Building Principal and Director of Administrative Services.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge and capability of cleaning and making minor repairs to buildings andequipment, including regular maintenance. Must be able to follow instructions and orders.Authorities and Responsibilities:1. Is responsible for the general condition, especially cleanliness, of the area of thebuilding and grounds to which he/she is assigned by the Head Custodian and theSupervisor of Buildings and Grounds.2. Reports promptly to the Head Custodian any conditions that need to be remediedor repaired.3. Checks the classrooms periodically to assure that the proper temperature ismaintained.4. Cleans rooms, corridors, windows, and glass doors, as per schedule.5. Responsible for closing and securing the building. A routine check must be madeeach night to see that all entrances are secured. Checks night lights to determine ifthey are functioning properly.6. Keeps all steps and sidewalks free of snow and ice and covered with an approvednon-slip material.7. Makes minor repairs at the direction of the Head Custodian or the Supervisor ofBuildings and Grounds.8. Becomes familiar with the heating, ventilating, electrical, plumbing, and othersystems of the building so that any abnormal conditions in any of these areas canbe recognized and corrected immediately.9. Distributes materials, supplies, and equipment to staff members upon properapplication.10. Guards against waste of materials, supplies, water, and energy.11. Performs such duties as may be delegated by the Head Custodian, the Supervisor ofBuildings and Grounds and the Building Principal. 12. Is able to speak and write in a clear, concise manner.13. Is able to move throughout all district buildings (all floors) and school districtgrounds.14. Performs the necessary tasks associated with an emergency shutdown to preventand/or reduce potential harm and/or damage to the building occupants and/or thebuilding structure.Physical Requirements:Requires movement throughout the shift, in order to clean and organize various areas ofthe building, using provided equipment and chemicals.Requires hand and finger dexterity to use cleaning equipment. Required to be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Periodically involves climbing ladders to maintain equipment and building components.May require use of cleaning machinery and equipment, as well as lawn maintenance andsnow removal equipment.Auditory and Visual Requirements - within normal range, with or without correction.Worksite Environment:Primarily indoors, but will be outdoors for lawn maintenance as well as snow removal asrequired.Exposure to various cleaning chemicals and equipment / machinery.Licenses and Certifications:Relevant criminal histories and child abuse clearances.Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.Mental Demands:Steady response to unpredictable situations.Must complete required cleaning processes within a scheduled amount of time.How To ApplyPlease complete the online application.
