This part-time position performs a variety of funeral service-related tasks before, during, and after funeral/memorial services, viewing/visitation services, committal services, and other related but unspecified services under the supervision of the funeral director in charge of the services and/or the funeral home location manager.Essential Functions and Competencies
- Pickup and transport decedents between locations.
- Assist Funeral Director with dressing decedents and placing them in casket.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull 150 pounds or more.
- Assist in closing, lifting, and placement of the casket.
- Greet people entering the establishment, determine the purpose of their visit, and direct them to specific destinations.
- Provide information about the establishment, such as funeral service and viewing/visitation information, employees within the organization and/or services provided.
- Cleaning the facility, automobiles, and funeral equipment prior to use.
- Assist in the daily cleaning, maintenance, and organization of the funeral home.
- Arranging floral offerings or lights around casket.
- Directing, instructing, or escorting the public.
- Carry flowers to assigned vehicles.
- Driving flower vehicle, funeral coach, or limousine.
- Cleaning and storing funeral equipment after services.
- Operate telephone to answer, screen, and forward calls, provide information and take messages.
- Perform a variety of supportive tasks under the supervision of the funeral director in charge to ensure that all services are conducted in a smooth and well-planned manner.
- Conduct all duties in compliance with all company policies and procedures, all governmental regulations and generally accepted and applied principles and practices of funeral service.
- Must possess and maintain a current and valid state driver's license.
Physical Demands
- Ability to tolerate exposure to hazardous substances subject to government requirements.
- Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling with assistance, of objects up to approximately 350 pounds with assistance.
- Manual dexterity required for clerical tasks.
- Occasional stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and carrying objects weighing up to approximately 30 pounds for short distances.
- Ability to travel by standard methods of transportation.
- Must be capable of communicating with management and supervised employees.
- Must be free from judgment-impairing conditions, disease or addictions, or those, which impair ability to interact with employees, management or public.
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkPart-time Funeral Assistant hours can vary widely from week to week. Work hours will vary based on the number of services held during a given week and the needs of the family we are serving. Weekend and evening hours are common.Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Professional communication skills
- Knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations related to the funeral industry
- Must possess and maintain a current and valid state driver's license.
