JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for supervising the fitness specialists, coaches, and instructors in regards to fitness floor responsibilities and group fitness programs. Assist in coordinating clinical program operations in accordance to standards appropriate for a medical fitness center. Provide leadership and support to the fitness team and instructors, analyze and resolve problems, interpret policies and procedures and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the fitness industry to ensure programs and services operate effectively and efficiently. Play a lead/active role in member retention and community events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
Staff Management
Identify, recruit, and train effective fitness industry professionals, encourage cooperation, teamwork and facilitate constructive conflict resolution, assess staff ability and recommend development opportunities, contribute to the staff's annual performance review, motivate staff to achieve goals, and ensure appropriate staff coverage through strategic and effective scheduling.
Fiscal Responsibility
Plan the work-unit's budget and manage income and expenditure, through responsible implementation of policies, practices and decisions in order to achieve unit objectives effectively and efficiently.
Program and Product Implementation (Quality)
Assist in the development and implementation of classes, programs, services and events that are safe, effective, and provide an experience to the user, including fitness testing, referral paths, program content, and program evaluation/feedback from staff and users.
Documenting/Recording Information
Entering, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form for staff records, department manuals, program materials, program and service outcomes, AED/First Aid Kits, life safety drills, referrals, and fitness floor equipment. Assist with facility certification process and medical advisory committee work.
Reporting and Data Analytics
Monitor activities and provide information to various levels of management so as to enable in judging the effectiveness of their responsibility areas and become a base for taking corrective measures, if necessary. Areas such as fitness assessments/outcomes, participant attendance/compliance, fitness floor safety, and referral pathways.
Resolving Conflicts and Negotiating with Others
Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others for both staff and members.
Provider/Instructor Skills
Provide a minimum of 5 hours a week of professional instruction to members/community as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Fitness Coach or other professional role. Answer inquires of members in a timely manner and assist with new member onboarding.
Professional Standards
Comply with the standards and requirements of all federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and industry guidelines that impact the operations of the medical fitness center (e.g. HIPPA, Confidentiality Policies and Procedures, American College of Sports Medicine guidelines, Medical Fitness Facility Certification). Ensure professional credentials are maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in an exercise science related field
One to three years Working in the fitness industry as an instructor or provider
Other Supervisory experience preferred
Other Experience in the medical fitness field an asset
Understanding of finance and budget planning preferred
Good written and verbal communication skills
Customer service experience
