SUMMARY:

The Lyon Center for Gamebird Research at East Texas A&M University is a flagship research center with a mission to discover solutions for sustainable gamebird populations, train the next generation of gamebird professionals, and preserve our gamebird hunting heritage.

The Lyon Center is recruiting a highly motivated and creative Communications and Outreach Coordinator to develop, manage, and advance the center's communications and outreach program while promoting the Lyon Center's mission. The successful candidate will coordinate the Lyon Center's communications, outreach, and social media strategy while collaborating to create a branded voice that appeals to the center's various stakeholders in the outdoor, academic, and agricultural industries.

We are seeking a creative and self-motivated leader in communications and outreach to join our team of dynamic and supportive staff members with a passion for gamebird research. Under the direction of the Director of the Lyon Center, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the Lyon Center's communication and outreach strategy while promoting the Lyon Center's mission. Primary duties include developing and maintaining the Lyon Center's newsletter, social media and email campaigns, and outreach program. The selected candidate will also collaborate with partners to raise awareness of the Lyon Center while serving as lead coordinator for all communications and outreach events. Candidates should have experience coordinating communications and outreach, with preference given to candidates with experience working in the gamebird or outdoor industry and knowledge of gamebird conservation.

We will work closely with the selected candidate to provide ample professional development, such as training opportunities, conference attendance, and career counseling.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develops and executes a communications and outreach strategy

* Collaborates with staff to develop engaging content for communications and outreach channels

* Develops, distributes, tracks, and reports all communications and outreach for the Lyon Center

* Develops and maintains active collaborations with industry partners

* Interacts with respondents to Lyon Center communications and outreach

* Maintains a unified brand across social media and other communication channels

* Collaborates with other departments and partners to create engaging outreach campaigns

* Cultivates partners to raise awareness of the Lyon Center and its mission

* Participates in programmatic and strategic planning for the Lyon Center

* Performs administrative tasks associated with the position and the Lyon Center

* Oversees planning and hosting of Lyon Center outreach events

* Updates website as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with four years of related professional experience. Experience in outdoor communications and outreach is preferred. The ideal candidate has a passion for the outdoors and outdoor education.

* Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of or experience related to the outdoors, gamebirds, pollinators, and/or wildlife. Knowledge of or experience in marketing and promotion. Proficient computer skills to coordinate communications, outreach, and social media strategies. Strong organizational skills. Excellent skills in public relations, community engagement and networking.

* Ability to: Communicate the Lyon Center's mission and activities across multiple platforms; understand trends in digital content and social media space; work as a team member; inspire, motivate, and lead partners; and represent the Lyon Center with professionalism.

* Licensing/Professional Certifications: N/A

* Physical Requirements: Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods, ability to be outdoors for extended periods, ability to lift and transport outreach materials, and ability to communicate for the duration of shifts or events.

* Other Requirements: May be required to travel with overnight stays for communication and outreach activities.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate:

* Has a passion and understanding for gamebirds, conservation, and/or the outdoors.

* Prioritizes the mission of the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research.

* Is a skilled storyteller capable of crafting compelling, mission-driven content that resonates with various audiences and bring the Lyon Center's vision and values to life.

* Has proven experience coordinating communications and outreach, including social media and newsletters.

* Enjoys interacting with the public, donors, public agencies, and corporate and non-profit partners.

* Demonstrates proficiency in digital media formats, content creation, and content distribution.

* Has strong copywriting and editing skills.

* Demonstrates impeccable organizational and time management skills.

* Demonstrates strong project management skills and experience using project management tools

* Is detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.

* Is proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and WordPress.

* Has experience working in a higher education setting or familiarity with university processes, or working with research, conservation, or non-profit organizations.

* Exudes professionalism.
