Position: Garden Educator: Novato & Sonoma County Reports to: Garden Supervisor Classification: Nonexempt Supervise: None T he desirable candidate lives in S Petaluma, Novato, or Marin . Job Title: Garden Educator Job Description: The Garden Educator (GE) role at North Bay Children's Center (NBCC) is a dynamic position that requires a growth mindset, resilience, and a deep passion for experiential education. The Garden Educator will play a pivotal role in contributing to the development and success of the Garden of Eatin' Living Curriculum education programs. As a GE, you will inspire and engage students year-round through innovative best practices that align with the mission, values, and goals of NBCC. Responsibilities: 1. Curriculum Delivery: Lead the implementation of the Garden of Eatin ' Living Curriculum education programs, fostering a hands-on and experiential learning environment. Develop and deliver effective and inspired lessons that capture students' curiosity and enthusiasm for gardening, sustainability, and healthy living. 2. Innovative Practices: Apply innovative and research-based teaching methodologies that enhance the impact and effectiveness of the curriculum. Incorporate best practices in garden-based education to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences. 3. Mission Alignment: Ensure that all education programs are executed in alignment with the mission, values, and goals of North Bay Children's Center. Promote a holistic approach to education that nurtures children's physical, emotional, and intellectual growth. 4. Garden: Co llaborate on all aspects of garden and outdoor spaces . Participate in curriculum related seasonal crop planning and plant selection . P rocurement and p reparation of seeds for planting in greenhouse. Refresh soil, mulch, and other materials to gardens. Maintain a bountiful year-round organic edible garden. Pest management Irrigation 5. Maintenance and Landscape: Perform regular maintenance tasks such as weeding, watering, planting, site cleanup, and soil cultivation to ensure the vitality of garden spaces. Implement sustainable gardening practices to promote the health and growth of plants and trees. Collaborate with GS on landscaping projects to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the garden areas . 6. Greenhouse Management: Help with seedling propagation, transplanting, and maintenance of optimal growing conditions. Integrate greenhouse activities into the curriculum and provide students with hands-on learning experiences. 7. Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Garden of Eatin ' Team and NBCC staff to create a supportive and cohesive learning environment. Contribute to a collegial atmosphere, valuing teamwork, and professional growth. 8. Problem-Solving: Demonstrate independent problem-solving skills to address challenges that may arise during program implementation. Seek creative solutions that uphold the quality and integrity of the education programs. 9. Professionalism: Contribute professionally to the NBCC community, upholding the organization's standards and values. Represent NBCC positively to students, parents, and the broader community. 10. Individual and Team Impact: Work as an integral part of the Garden of Eatin ' Team, contributing to the collective goals of the team. Independently take initiative while also valuing teamwork to achieve shared objectives . Qualifications: Proven experience delivering education programs, particularly in a garden-based or outdoor setting. A genuine passion for experiential learning and a strong commitment to children's growth and development. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and parents. Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving educational environment. Proficient problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and the ability to make informed decisions. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently as required . Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices and principles of child development is advantageous . Current CPR & First Aid Additional Duties: Contribute to and plan for GOE's participation in NBCC's annual fundraising event, Night in Tuscany, every year. Contribute to Program's monthly newsletter with emphasis on garden and/or nutrition for classrooms and families. Present, co-present or teach at occasional workshops, conferences, or events (after hours and Saturdays) Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and move items up to 50 pounds, reach, bend, squat, and kneel.
