Job DescriptionNemours is seeking a Garden Specialist to join our Nemours Estate team in Wilmington, DE.Position is a full-time, 40 hours per week role, 7a -3:30p shift. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving grounds conditions by performing all pertinent maintenance practices, working on special projects in the gardens, and working with business trades. Additional responsibilities are of a specialized nature, including but not limited to: oversight of all activities as pertaining to the health and appearance of the turf grass, trees, or specific garden areas. This may include short and long-term planning, development of management strategies, advanced record keeping, oversight of outside contractors, oversight of interns or volunteers, and coordination of activity within designated areas (both staff and contractors). Essential Functions1. Participate in planning, coordinating, and performing quality control for all activity performed in the gardens and grounds of the Estate, both with staff and outside contractors.2. Creation of schedules for work to be performed on designated area(s).3. Operate and maintain all equipment safely, including those requiring specialized training4. All horticultural activities as outlined in Gardener I and II descriptions5. Participate in snow and ice control.6. Participate in Nemours foundation and department programs for performance improvement.7. Work with department management to improve services provided and assist on special projects.8. Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.9. Will provide input for performance evaluations of staff that has been assigned to their area(s)Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree OR Four years professional training in horticulture, turf grass science, or tree care in lieu of degree
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • State of Delaware Pesticide Applicators License; ISA Arborist Certification preferred.
  • More than 5 years of experience in formal gardens, specialized turf organizations (golf courses, athletic fields, etc), and/or tree care organizations
