Job Description :
Primary Function: Under minimal supervision, the Inspector is responsible for inspecting the proper construction of natural gas poly and steel distribution systemsDuties and Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the job, construction route and traffic flow prior to project start.
  • Meet with contractor to review job and discuss any concerns they may have. Obtain crew list and confirm that they are Operator Qualified.
  • Review drawings, construction plans, permit requirements, etc.
  • Perform visual inspections of all project construction activities to verify conformance to the drawings and specifications for each inspector's functional area.
  • Keep a log of all quality deficiencies and construction deviations that documents the deficiency, the corrective action or repair to be taken by other contractor(s) and shall follow up to verify corrective action was completed.
  • Produce a daily report of the work performed by contractors, inspection services completed, and deficiencies or deviations.
  • Witness other contractors' pre-commission tests and/or equipment calibration prior to installation.
  • Verify that all inspection records/quality documents and relevant project documents produced by contractor and/or other contractors are maintained and archived.
  • Be present for handling of all major equipment by other contractors, including loading and unloading, and shall inspect equipment prior to any lift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of construction documentation and project filing systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite of products and other software packages in use in the construction industry.
  • Excellent organizational skills to produce accurate project records during construction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good skills regarding attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to read construction prints.
  • Ability to sketch construction drawings and/or to use software for construction diagrams.
  • Ability to rapidly establish creditability and relationships with a broad range of individuals.
  • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required plus a minimum of five (5) years of experience in gas construction relating to field inspections and technical specifications (standards, procedures, design, etc.) OR a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the installation of natural Gas Mains, Services and Field Projects
  • NGA Operator Qualified or ability to become qualified within one month.
  • Experience with polyethylene pipe, fusion, and as-built prints is preferred.
  • Hands-on construction experience is desired.
Additional:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record and maintain vehicle insurance as required.
Physical Demands:
  • Duties are performed primarily in an outdoor setting with exposure to changing weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Ambulatory across uneven surfaces of a construction excavation work zone, frequent bending at knees and waist.
  • Must be able to perform work in a very loud, active construction environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on a regular basis.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers and clients. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
