Position: Gas System Operator

Location: Bronx, NY

Salary: $80,000-$130,000 base + 20% bonus for shift premium

Work Hours: Rotating shift schedule, 12 hour shifts

  • EX: 4 night shifts > 2 days off > 3 day shifts > 3-4 days off > training week of 4 days/8 hour shifts > 3 day shifts > 2 days off > 4 night shifts > 8 day break
  • Ultimately, will work 80 days less annually compared to the a typical 5 day, 8 hour shift schedule

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Control Room Experience - (No Specific Industry)
  • 4-6 years of professional experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated and willing to learn, able to work independently and make informed decisions
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have reliable transportation

Nice to Have Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the energy or utility industry - steam, gas, electric, water or sewer systems
  • Knowledge of hydraulic pressures and flows
  • 1 year of control room, process controls, or utility operations experience
  • Qualified Operator by the Department of Transportation Operator Qualification

Job Description

Insight Global is hiring for an Associate Gas System Operator to join the Gas Engineering Response Center within the Gas Controls division. This is a full-time opportunity that takes place on a rotating shift schedule in person in the Bronx, NY.

The sole responsibility of this position is to support NYC's energy systems to maintain the integrity and safety of gas transmission and distribution systems year round. This is a 24/7 operation using internal systems to read and monitor field values (pressure, temperature, flow, etc) to ensure the system is properly maintained and to make any adjustments as needed to mitigate and prevent emergencies. This will be done by communicating with field crews to evaluate and advise on best courses of corrective action. The initial 4-6 months of this position will be revolved around a robust, hands-on training program regarding industry knowledge and best practices when advising field crews. To be considered as qualified for this position, the ideal candidate will need to be highly motivated to learn, able to work across cross-functional teams, and demonstrate independent decision making.
