GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:This is important physical and detailed clerical work involving responsibility for the performance of a number of varied tasks. Requires the exercise of sound judgement, a general understanding of departmental procedures and policies, the adaptability to perform well in a highly computerized environment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and to work as a team member. Must be familiar with basic accounting concepts. Qualified person must be in good physical condition, capable of lifting and carrying heavy and bulky loads. Must be able to learn and operate coin-counting equipment. Must be able to use discretion in dealing with the public presenting a professional image. Needs personal qualities consistent with those required in a position of trust and handling of public funds, including capable of being bonded. Ability to maintain a strict time schedule. Position requires a consistently good attendance record.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:High school graduate or equivalent. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. Able to operate 10-key calculator by touch. Must have legible handwriting. Sufficient math knowledge to understand conversion of continental time to decimal equivalents. Ability to work with percentages. Able to make and verify computations accurately at a reasonable rate of speed. Able to understand and to follow oral and written instructions and standardized procedures with a minimum amount of supervision.Must have achieved the following minimum test scores: 80% on General Accounting and Math within the past two years; and 80% on the following tests: Checking, Accuracy in Copying, and Calculator. Must be able to type 35 words per minute. Must pass a physical examination, including a back examination.JOB DESCRIPTION:* Pick up, sort, meter, and deliver Authority mail within the facility and pick up and drop off at designated postal site.* Calculate daily punched clock times, office/shop time cards.* Compile and code time card totals by activity codes, regular and half hours, pay numbers and adjustments.* Record manual check numbers on computerized Payroll Check register.* File bi-weekly pay reports.* Assist Payroll Clerks as Necessary.* Deliver pass orders.* Sort cancelled checks.* Replenish petty cash funds* Act as a delivery messenger.* Assist in maintaining files on the mezzanine.* Count Share-A-Fare mail and make monthly postage reports.* Act as back up for Payroll Clerk and Utility Clerk.* May include other duties as needed and assigned by supervisor.
