Posting Details Position Information Position Title General Associate: Content Manager Job Type Temporary/Contractual Position Information We are searching for a driven, detail-oriented Content Manager to produce high-quality outputs for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The content Manager will update existing material, generate new content for multiple media, and identify new ways to reach our key audiences. The position is contractual and temporary with no regular benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The UMES Marketing and Communications Department is looking for a Content Manager to write and publish various types of materials for our key audiences, including internal communications, marketing materials, web content, leadership content, brochures, and social media posts. Ultimately, the successful candidate will help us reach our target audience by delivering both useful and distinctive information about the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, our faculty and students, our research, our alumni, and the importance of HBCUs in the higher education landscape. To be a successful Content Manager, the successful candidate should focus on appealing to our audience's interests by creating engaging material. Ultimately, an exceptional Content Manager will promote collaboration between internal stakeholders to ensure consistency in UMES outputs. Responsibilities
  • Write, review, edit, and update content for university websites, blogs, media materials, marketing materials, and similar platforms. This may include newsletters, weekly emails, annual reports, blogs, podcasts and other media directed to our internal audiences.
  • Conduct research and interviews to learn more about current trends, developments, and perceptions about the subject matter, and then communicate that in an understandable fashion to our internal audiences.
  • Deliver content to our social media to engage consumers, respond to questions or complaints, and to promote UMES initiatives.
  • Collaborate with department staff, and UMES students, faculty and staff to uncover great content and relay it to the appropriate audiences.
  • Monitor social media and UMES website metrics.
  • Suggest new ways to promote University offerings and to reach our key audiences.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Classification 27-0000 Arts, Design, Entertainment, Sports, and Media Occupations Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, marketing, digital studies or a similar field.
  • Proven work experience as a Content Manager, Copywriter or similar role, creating strong, engaging content.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, proofreading, and editing.
  • Experience in researching timely topics in higher education.
  • Experience creating and distributing marketing copy to for the University and our internal clients
  • Experience interviewing faculty, staff, senior leadership, and industry professionals and incorporate their views in stories, blog posts, and marketing copy.
  • Experience editing and proofreading written pieces before publication
  • Experience promoting content on social networks and monitoring engagement.
  • Ability to identify our audience's needs and recommend new topics.
  • Must be flexible to work occasional requirements to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to utilize SEO methods to increase site traffic.
  • Knowledge of print and digital media formats.
  • Still photography and video experience.
  • Experience in higher education.
