Job SummaryThe General Kitchen Assistant is responsible for general cleaning of the food preparation areas (washing dishes,pots/pans and other utensils, etc) utilizing a commercial dishwasher, storage of food preparation equipment of dishware.Assists in the kitchen as needed, maintains all equipment in a clean, safe and sanitary manner pursuant to establishedpolicies and procedures. Interacts with residents in a variety of ways and settings, including social, recreational,diversional and/or vocational ways.
ResponsibilitiesPerforms Warewashing of Dishes, Pots/Pans, Utensils, Etc.Tests sanitizing solution concentration and reports variances to supervisor. Operates the dish machine assuring proper temperatures (160° F for wash and greater than 180°F forrinse). Scrapes dishes, presoaks silverware, loads dishes, pots/pans and silverware on dish machine following department procedures. Always runs dishwasher as efficiently as possible. Monitors temperature on dish machine per instructions. Reports abnormal temperatures to supervisor. Monitors all ware washing and chemical products and alerts supervisor for supply needs. Rinses and washes pots/pans as per established procedures. Removes clean dishes, pots/pans and silverware, etc., from dish machine and returns them todesignated storage area.Performs Other Dining Services Cleaning FunctionsEmpties, cleans and relines garbage cans throughout the kitchen. Washes mop heads, rags and aprons as needed. Sweeps and mops the department. Always performs job duties using Mon County Health Department guidelines. Maintains sanitary and organized dish room and other kitchen areas, including work tables, counters,sinks and floors. Cleans dining rooms, including floors and furnishings, as assigned. Cleans walls, doors and equipment as assigned by the supervisor.Performs Other Duties as RequiredAttends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education. Maintains required job knowledge. Attends a minimum of 4 staff meetings per year. Identifies appropriate cases of abuse and neglect and demonstrates knowledge of mandatory reporting requirements. Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesMedium Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs with a maximum lifting of 50 lbs.Knowledge of commercial kitchen practices and procedures and/or oneyear prior cook experience preferred. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand english. Ability to understand VHPand department policies and procedures and operate departmental equipment ability obtained through on- the-job training.Effective interpersonal communication skills in order to maintain cooperative work relationships. Must be able to follow oraland written instructions.
Education • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
