POSITION: General Maintenance I REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance TERM: 12-monthsSALARY GRADE: State Salary Schedule commensurate with education, experience and certifications/licensureNATURE OF WORK: An employee in this class assists in a variety of routine and repetitive manual tasks. Any problem or situation encountered, that is out of the ordinary, is referred to a supervisor. Errors are generally easily detected and remedied. This employee receives direct supervision. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Loads and unloads material, equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Transports tools and materials to and among work sites.
  • Helps dismantle machines and equipment.
  • Removes dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines.
  • Lubricates machine parts.
  • Connects objects using a hammer, screwdriver, drill, or glue.
  • Picks up trash.
  • Digs holes, ditches, trenches.
  • Cleans the work area after repair or installation.
  • The successful candidate will perform general maintenance duties at various schools/locations throughout the district.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools used in performing work assignments.
    • Ability to follow simple instructions.
  • Ability and physical strength sufficient to move objects.
  • Ability to work out in the elements without regard.
  • Must have strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
  • Ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district requirements and Board policies
  • General knowledge of cleaning methods, methods and equipment.
  • General skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning and grounds keeping.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions.
  • Successful work experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Sit and talk or hear
  • Frequently walk and use fingers, tools, or controls
  • Occasionally stand and reach with hands and arms
  • Visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. daily
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEQualified applicant must have minimum of high school diploma or GED. Post-secondary education and/or training is preferred. Maintenance positions require general maintenance knowledge. No technical certifications or licenses are required, but either would be beneficial. General framing, woodworking, plumbing, electrical, and/or equipment operation experience is preferred.Only complete applications will be processed for interview consideration.
