General Maintenance Worker Grow Academy Full-Time, Hourly, Year-round Reports to: Facilities Manager Summary Description: The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled labor to maintain and repair school facilities. This includes tasks in groundskeeping, plumbing, mechanical systems, painting, masonry, and basic electrical work. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks, including groundskeeping, plumbing, mechanical work, painting, masonry, and basic electrical and wiring tasks.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively while completing assigned projects.
- Follow work orders to identify material and equipment needs, organize supplies, and ensure efficient task completion.
- Operate specialized equipment in compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and component replacements on plumbing, electrical, security, and mechanical systems.
- Repair building interiors and exteriors as directed, utilizing proper safety precautions and reporting issues beyond the scope of authority.
- Perform custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, buffing floors, cleaning restrooms, replenishing supplies, cleaning windows, dusting furniture, and emptying trash receptacles.
- Maintain adherence to safety regulations in all work performed and promptly report problems or emergencies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skill in working independently to complete daily activities according to a schedule.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to:
- Follow and provide clear verbal and written instructions.
- Perform medium physical work and operate custodial equipment.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing tasks.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and supervisors.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
- At least 3 years experience custodial work. Some supervisory responsibilities preferred.
- At least two years of experience in basic building maintenance.
- A valid State of California Driver's License is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Operate equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, and leaf blowers.
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, involving constant physical effort in maintenance and repair projects.
