Description of the Job: No single person has a greater impact on the overall performance of a Slim Chickens restaurant than the general manager. A general manager leads the operation of the restaurant and ensures the restaurant is run at a high level by meeting company goals for food quality and safety, staffing, restaurant cleanliness, customer service, cost controls, facilities maintenance, etc. Working through the restaurant team (assistant managers, shift managers, crew) and under the direction of the district manager and other supervisors, the general manager accomplishes these objectives and sets the overall tone for a restaurant's culture and attitude. As such we strive to maintain exceptionally high standards among this group of leaders in our organization. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:
  • Manage a staff of assistant managers and approximately 15-45 employees (depending on the location), consisting of crew members and shift leaders.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire (or participate in those decision) crew members and shift leaders. Conduct performance evaluations and take disciplinary action with the approval/partnership from Human Resources.
  • Has the authority to hire and terminate (or participate in those decisions) crew members, shift leaders, and assistant managers with the approval/partnership from Human Resources.
  • Coach, direct, motivate, and hold accountable all the members of subordinate staff in order to achieve overall success.
  • Ensure the restaurant's stated operating hours are maintained and prepare weekly employee schedules to ensure the restaurant is appropriately staffed to meet demand every day.
  • Manage, supervise, and assist with the preparation, sales, and service of food that meets or exceeds the brand's standards.
  • Manage, delegate, and is responsible for, the ordering, receipt, storage, and issuing of all food, labor, equipment, cleaning, and paper supplies for the restaurant to ensure a minimum loss from waste or theft.
  • Lead subordinate team to deliver outstanding customer service (Southern Hospitality in Slim Chickens-speak) and to resolve conflicts and complaints from customers in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean restaurant that meets or exceeds standards set by Simply Slims.
  • Complete preventative maintenance and upkeep of restaurant facilities, equipment, and grounds by reporting maintenance issues quickly and using the approved process.
  • Foster a safe working environment that complies with health and safety laws, codes, and regulations, as well as the company safety and security policies. Immediately report all hazards directly to your district manager and the Simply Slims Operating Partner as needed.
  • Ensure a safe working and customer experience environment by facilitating safe work behaviors of the employees in accordance with the handbooks and policies of the company.
  • Analyze and interpret financial results of the restaurant to improve performance.
  • Drive deposits to the bank.
Other Responsibilities of the Job (not exhaustive):
  • Assist crew members during rush periods to ensure restaurant efficiency.
  • Assis crew members by greeting customers, taking orders, using the cash register, assembling orders, and checking for completeness and accuracy.
  • Execute systems and procedures with 100% integrity and completeness.
  • Audit systems and procedures.
  • Maintain controls on inventory including physical controls, accurate inventory counts, and management of supplier claims.
  • Oversee food prep amounts in order to ensure enough supply for daily needs, but minimize waste.
  • Keep watchful eye on cash and report any instances of theft of cash, food, or company property immediately to district manager or the Simply Slims Operating Partner.
  • Maintain highly organized restaurant including supplies rooms, kitchen, office, etc.
  • Collaborate with Simply Slims catering department to fulfil customer orders.
  • Implement processes, policies, and procedures that are directed, from time to time by district manager and other supervisors.
  • Quickly communicate problems, crisis situations, and needs to district manager or other supervisors as needed.
  • Identifying future GMs within subordinates and communicating with district manager about training and progressing those individuals.
  • Track daily/hourly sales to identify opportunities or potential early closes or late openings.
Qualifications Guidelines:
  • Ability to read, analyze, create and interpret general business memos and documents
  • Excellent written, verbal and group communication skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, divide and use fractions, percentages, ratios, and convert units of measurement
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to make good decisions and adapt to changing situations
  • Good computer skills including being proficient in Word and Excel. Ability to learn and use other software as required
  • Managerial, supervisory, leadership, and customer service experience
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Driver's License, a good driving record, and have access to a vehicle
Physical Demands:
  • Long periods of standing on hard surfaces, occasionally in warm temperatures
  • Constant movement about the restaurant kitchen, dining room, and office to reach high/low cabinets, shelves, kitchen equipment, etc.
  • Constant communication with employees and customers face-to-face, via headsets, phone calls, or other means. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Occasional operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a copy machine
  • Occasional ascension/descension of a ladder and extensive lifting of supplies and materials and moderate to loud noise.
  • The use of hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects is required.
  • Constant exposure to hot equipment and cook oil throughout the work day
  • Regular detection of deficiencies in food quality (including color, texture, overall appearance)
  • Have the ability to drive a motor vehicle
